Good Saturday Night-

I recently decided to give Roon a try via a 60 trial via my Bryston BDP 3.

I put the Roon Core and Remote on a laptop in hopes of using the BDP3 as an end-point. Both the laptop and Bryston are on WiFi.
I have not been able to get the BDP 3 recognized.

If I plug the laptop into my DAC via USB, it all works. Problem is, the sound quality coming through the laptop is not as good as the BDP3.

I have tried hard wiring the laptop and BDP3 but still no luck. Not a practical solution anyway.

I do like the the Roon interface and integration with Qobuz but as of now, it looks like a No-Go.

The folks at Roon seem to be trying so far to no avail.

Anyone here have any suggestions?

Thanks!

A few thoughts:
1. Make sure you have latest firmware in the Bryston.
2. Try resetting the unit & Make sure that the laptop and the Bryston are connected to the SAME network.
3. Close Roon core and turn off laptop computer and the Bryston. Then turn on Bryston first. After Bryston connects to internet, turn on laptop and then start Roon Core. In Roon, Go to the audio devices and see if the Bryston device is shown. If it does then enable it.

Hi JohnJ

Did you enable Bryston BDP-3 in Roon as an endpoint? Roon should see the BDP-3 as a zone. Ensure to update the firmware.

Roon remote is optional and you could drive the setup through the laptop.

The BDP-3/BDA3 was my first digital setup and currently use the dCS Bartok.

Roon uses plenty of bandwidth too so do make sure the Internet connection is good enough.

Hello All-

Thank you for your suggestions. The only one I had not thought about was that everything was on the same network. I guess this means 2.4 5.0 etc (such as the extenders). I did make that double check but, unfortunately to no avail.

Agreed with Phishphan the Bryston customer support is outstanding! Dare I say a touch above McIntosh...

Feeling this is a Roon problem, I have not contacted Bryston as of yet although that might well be the solution. I'll give Roon some more time. In the meantime, ChrisR "got your ears on, Good Buddy?"

Happy Fall

John

Update-

After diving further into firewalls settings, all is now working, the BDP3 recognized and acting as a Roon endpoint.
So:

2010 MacbookPro Roon core and ripped CD storage WiFi to BDP3 to USB BDA3.

The SQ is good but I think using the BDP3 with Manic Moose still has an edge. Perhaps a separate Roon device for the core and music storage would be better as a lot is being asked of the MacBook. In any event, a great way check out the Roon advantage.
