I got a email a few days ago about the newest and most exciting Roon 2.0 and today it launched. I updated my iphone app and saw what could be a potential problem for some. My current Roon core computer was on version 1.8 and the iphone could not find the core computer. I went to the core computer and usually it will inform me about a update. But, nothing was showing up. So, I went to the Roon community and saw alarms and frustrations from users. Someone posted a link (below) on what is currently compatible with Roon 2.0

https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/roon-1-8-2-0-migration-faq-16-9-2022#How_do_I_downgrade_to_18

I was able to update the Roon core computer and iPad and all seem to work well. At least for me for now.

Good luck

in the past roon has instructed users to first update the iOS app and then the core. perhaps, this is similar sequencing ...otoh, it may also be a bug -- if so,i am sure they will get is sorted.

for major updates, i usually wait a few days in case of issues just in case.

thanks for the heads up!

I only updated the Roon Core based on this.

"Compared to Roon 1.8, the minimum recommended requirements for your Roon Core have changed. Roon 2.0 requires macOS 10.15 (Catalina) or later, Windows 10 or later, any version of RoonOS, or any recent Linux release (back to approximately 2014).

If your Core or desktop remote(s) do not meet this minimum specification, they will be unable to run Roon 2.0. If you wish to run Roon 2.0 or later, you will need to update any computers that are below the minimum specification, prior to installing Roon 2.0."

It was a easy but anxious moment.

Why would anyone that has any computer exposed to the Internet not be running the latest updates, both OS and patches? Seems like an absolutely reasonable requirement seeing that one of the major added functions allows for access to your library remotely (i.e. through the Internet).

Tempest in a teapot. Update your iPad to Roon 2.0 and your core to 2.0 and all is well.

Love the new Arc app, have a lot of ripped jazz CDs that are not available on streaming services and can now access my entire Roon library in the car, walking the dog, while cycling, at my son’s place in VT… Also downloaded playlists to my phone to play when there is no internet access. What’s not to like?

Just installed on my Mac mini & iPhone. Working fine over Sonos..... still have my gear boxed up in my other house until I sell it. All of my nudging to move it before the big move has not gone over well with my wife!

Since I only listen to music in my home ARC offers nothing to me.

OP - As one data point, I upgraded today and have zero issues. I haven’t played with ROON Arc yet but will get a chance over the weekend when I am traveling.

Frankly, as long as I have Qobuz available on the road, I could live with out having access to my personally library. There is a high percentage of overlap between them so I don’t suffer.

I updated to 2.0 last night. IPad and iPhone check. Roon server on the NAS, check. I installed ARC on iPhone and it works well, although I would probably just keep using the Qobuz app for that purpose probably. The ARC app is an iPhone app only, there was not an iPad version.

No adverse issues, I’ll do a closer listen this evening.

Here is something I'm trying to figure out with Roon 2.0 and my ipad. Usually when I use Roon for Tidal or Qobuz I have to wake up my silent computer before my ipad is able to play Roon. Just now I brought up Roon on the ipad and started a play list. My display shows the Roon input as not active on my TV. Which means it is in sleep mode. But, if Roon 2.0 allows me to access everything while my computer is in sleep mode?! This is huge IMO. Have other people noticed this?
