RMAF 2014 News

At the show, Arcam will have a serious stereo system built around the new C49 Preamp and a pair of the 400 watt P49 mono amps configured as mono-blocks.

Hi All,

Excuse this quick blast to the show mailing list, hopefully this mail is not duplicated? If you are making it to RMAF, please come and see us and we guarantee a musical sound that far outperforms it's $20k price point. Our new amps really do restate value in the High-end market.

Cheers Robert

The main system in Room 8009 will consist of:

Arcam CDS27 CD/SACD Streaming disc player NEW $TBC
The Arcam D33 SuperDAC $3199
The C49 High-end Stereo pre-amp NEW $4750
Two x P49 High-end Stereo Power amps configures as 400 watt mono blocks NEW $5000 each

Arcam will also show the $149 Hi-Def Bluetooth streamer mini-Blink and the entry-level $999
FMJ A19 stereo amp, set up to drive Canton Reference 3.2s. The A19 system will also feature the new VinylPlay turntable from Flexson

In addition there will be a vinyl rig of appropriate quality for the big system that is being loaned to us by a local retailer (ListenUp) and will be named later. There will be the $2000 UDP411 Disc Player and an AVR450 on static display.

Andy Moore of Arcam UK will be available to chat about why Class G is class “A” and other pithy topics.

Note on the new $5750 FMJ A49 Stereo Integrated Amp (pictured)
This is a staggering new integrated amp with a money no object build remit. Arcam Founder John Dawson was given the task of building the best amplifier he could and he has done a cracking job!

The A49 uses class G amplification, which allows the A49 (and P49s) to run in full class A for the first 50wpc then switches into class AB for anything more that is required, all the way up to the full output of 200w in 8Ω. To hear just what this delivers come on in with a piece of music you thought you knew and hear it as it should be !!

The A49 delivers 400 to 800 watts of muscular finesse, balanced with 100 watts of Class-A sweetness, class leading detail retrieval and an ultra-low noise floor.

The C49/P49 Combo ups the Performance and Power

MUSICAL above all
We at Arcam don't build equipment to ream your ears out and impress on one quick listen. Arcam kit is made to be musical and enjoyable over years and years of listening. Many Hi-Fi and AV products are sharp and clear, very 'Hi-Fi' but they don't play music in an enjoyable fashion. Arcam kit gets more involving and more musical the longer you listen.

GamuT unveils the latest edition of their flagship loudspeakers:
The Revised Superior Series.

Externally, the RS-Series cabinets look almost identical to their predecessors. But GamuT revised the enclosures, internal networks, damping and the drivers. Like the original S-Series, the curved enclosures in the RS-Series are still based on an inner structure of laminated Finnish birch engineered wood. But now the outer skin consists of five layers of 2mm-thick real wood ash. This new outer skin delivers even more pleasing harmonics and a greater 3 dimensional soundstage.

Months of obsessive listening and testing also led to enhancing both the internal cabling and the damping. All internal cables are now Gamut’s own Wormhole Signatures. Again, this improvement led to all new internal damping, resulting in a 50% reduction in damping materials while maintaining an optimum damping level. The overall effect is a stunningly dynamic and detailed bass reproduction.

There are four models in the new RS-series. From quite possible the most accurate and musically engaging stand-mount speaker ever made, the RS3, to the no-compromise, full range RS9, capable of recreating the full acoustic as well as the dynamic energy and emotional experience of any live musical performance - transforming your home into a full-fledged concert hall.

World premiere of Gamutʼs new complete line of cables & DACdrive!

GamuT will also unveil their new Reference speaker cable as well as their Signature power cables for the first time anywhere, the CD3 CD-player and the great combo of the GamuT preamplifier Dual-Mono D3i and M250i monoblocks. GamuT might also unveil a prototype of their new combined DACdrive.

The full GamuT

GamuT started designing and building amplifiers for recording studios in the early eighties. Most of the amplifiers built back then are still being used today. Thus GamuT and its unique “Single-MosFet” technology were born. GamuT has long since branched into designing and manufacturing loudspeakers, electronics and cables.

The “Single-MosFet” circuit is a unique GamuT invention. It is at the heart of all GamuT amplifiers and eliminates two of the biggest problems in amplifier design. GamuT amps output section consists of only two transistors – one for the positive rail and one for the negative rail. Both are NPN transistors, meaning they are identical and without the shortcomings of the PNP type transistor, which the audio industry has been avoiding in line stages for years, but are forced to use in output stages. The GamuT “Single-MosFet” design delivers a signal without any time smearing, resulting in an extremely high degree of control over the loudspeakers and a very natural and open sound. These special MosFet’s can handle up to 135A continuously – and more than 500A peak!

All GamuT audio components are hand-build and tested in Denmark!

OPPO Digital Reveals PM-3 Planar Magnetic Headphones and HA-2 Portable Headphone Amplifier at RMAF

OPPO Digital, Inc. plans to reveal two new products still under development at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest. The PM-3 is a lightweight, closed-back planar magnetic headphone that provides excellent sound quality and portability, and the HA-2 is a portable headphone amplifier with built-in rechargeable battery designed to pair with mobile phones and portable music players.

Following the successful launch of the PM-1 and PM-2 planar magnetic headphones, OPPO continues to develop their planar magnetic driver technology. Technological breakthroughs achieved during the PM-1’s development, such as the 7-layer double-side voice coil diaphragm design and FEM-optimized neodymium magnet system, have enabled OPPO to further reduce the weight of the planar magnetic drivers while maintaining excellent sound quality and high sensitivity. As a result, the new drivers are even more suitable for a portable product and can be easily driven with any smartphone or portable music player. New to the PM-3 is its closed back design, which will allow consumers to enjoy their favorite music anywhere while being isolated from outside noise.

For users who need more power and better performance than a typical smartphone or portable music player can offer, the HA-2 portable headphone amplifier will be an excellent choice. Featuring a hybrid class AB amplifier and a USB DAC supporting 384 kHz PCM and DSD256, the HA-2 offers high performance digital-to-analog conversion for both Apple’s iPhone/iPod and many Android devices. A 3.5 mm input works with the remaining portable music players that do not have a USB-compatible digital output. Convenience features such as 30-minute rapid charging and a mobile device power bank make the HA-2 a true companion for music on the go.

OPPO will demonstrate the PM-3 and HA-2 for the first time in the Cam Jam section of the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest. Also on display will be OPPO’s award-winning PM-1 and PM-2 headphones, HA-1 desktop headphone amplifier, and BDP-105 universal Blu-ray player. Igor Levitsky, the chief acoustic designer for OPPO headphones, will be on site to answer questions. Mr. Levitsky will also be a panelist on the "High-End & Headphones: Translating High Fidelity Experience to Personal Audio Excellence" seminar to be held on Sunday from 1:30 to 2:30pm.
