RIP Jim Smith

Wow, that really sucks. Glad I got my signed book.

RIP
That is really sad. He was a nice guy, a class act and very serious about helping people optimize their systems for their rooms.

He came up from Atlanta to Raleigh to help with my Wilson Sashas, which I just couldn't get to sound right. He got the best out of them. He came up a second time to reposition the Sashas after I moved them out of frustration and didn't note the original position he had set. My wife and I visited him once when we went to Atlanta to see my Mom. It was a social visit but I heard his Tannoy Canterbury's and decided to sell the Sashas and buy Canterbury's. He came up a third time to set up the Canterburys.
He was a pleasure to be around and to talk to. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the times we saw him. As I said he was dead serious when he got into the speaker optimizing zone- no food, no drink, no bathroom, just intense concentration. We'll miss him.

I’m sorry to hear this sad news. I never met Jim as I live in the UK, but he was US distributor for Avantgarde when I bought my first pair and he kindly offered advice in setting up. He also published a list of 100 CDs that we should all have - well performed and well recorded music. I bought a few in my local store and when visiting the US at Tower Records, and more were found in my local library. I borrowed and replicated these on CD-Rs. I still play several of his recommended discs.

Decades later and reading his forum replies to members' questions he often advised on matters such as speaker cables and I recently switched to one of these recommendations.

Thanks Jim and rest in peace
