RIAA: LCR vs RC

This is a 'last first' for me, I have yet to try a phono stage with an LCR module vs. the usual RC RIAA network found in the majority of tube phono stages. Allnic's claim to fame seems to be their LCR module and the feedback I'm reading seems split, in broad terms is there a distinct sonic difference between the two implementations? or is it like anything else, it just depends.
 
Rob-There are some people on this forum who own or have owned Allnic phono stages who should roger-up. Their phono stages don't seem to get much buzz in the press.
 
I can't say one design eg. passive RIAA is any better sonically than say LCR. I've heard good phono stages using both. And as we all know, things are seldom equal. One thing you can see is that it seems to cost more to implement a LCR design for some reason.

Interesting thing though is that there are many phono sections using using LCR nowadays and as far as I can tell, all use a transformer step up. So again, do you gain at one stage and lose at another with a SUT?

the Zanden and the Ypsilon are two phono stages that seem to be at the top of many lists. I believe Peter B had Ypsilon in his system recently hopefully he'll weigh in. I couldn't help but notice the vintage audio guys are nearly all devout believers in LCRs as was common in the old days.

It's the "L" in the LCR that drives the cost up.
 
Rob, I will be doing a home demo of the Allnic H3000, hopefully soon. If interested, I'm sure my dealer will send you one for demo (Sunil on this forum in fact).
