Greetings all..first post.
I have Revel F52 speakers that are powered by a Rogue ST90 tube amp with KT120`s in it.
First, just to clarify, I absolutely love the sound !

Here`s my problem... I`ve just recently been putting bass traps and absorbers in the room which measures 22' x 20' with a sloping vaulted ceiling going from 8' to 11' high.

Occasionally I like to 'lean on it' a bit like most of us do, but now alot of the volume has been soaked up and I`m a little concerned that I`ll hurt my speakers if I push them too hard.

I know the term 'lean on it' is subjective so I`ll ask this question :

Should I be able hear when the amp is running out of steam ?? like the edgy hardness that an SS amp will put out when clipping ?

The speakers are rated:
87.5dB SPL with 2.83Vrms
@1 meter
• 6.5Ω (nominal)
• 3.5Ω (minimum @

The amp is 100 watt +-
Thanks

You will hear the sound become compressed, the soundstage start to collapse and most importantly, distortion to increase.

Thanks Mike and Joe.

Mike..this is my first real tube amp aside from a nice little Sophia Baby that I had. While I`ve heard SS amps I`ve had do what you describe, I just don`t know that if I do hear that, will it be too late or are tube amps more 'clip friendly' ?

Tube amps are definitely more "clip friendly". To me, compression seems to be the biggest sign in tube amps.

Thanks Mike and Joe.

Well, I could move off on the amp and put one in that will have enough power and not stress over it.
Problem is, I`m not wanting to give up ANYTHING that I`m hearing from the Rogue and I don`t want to spend the $$$ nor deal with the upkeep to keep them fed with larger tube amp/amps.
So it would have to be SS of some sort.
Maybe I need to post a question in the Amp section !?

Sorry, I'm not much help. I just have no personal experience with that Revel model or the Rogue. Listening to other Revels, I can't imagine that you hurt the speakers if the music is sounding clean. Even tubes that clip nicely will let you know if it's distorting big time.

Welcome to AS Pinkerton!

The F-52s are very nice speakers. They are not terribly efficient speakers and they love lots of power (I used to own F-32s and Salon 2s).
