I haven't seen or heard any reviews on this sub. It looks very promising at a much smaller footprint compared to the Gibraltar G-1. I wonder how much better a performer compared to the regular R-528 and how close to the Gibraltar series. It might work real well as a stereo pair in tighter spaces'. Below is from Sumiko's website.

R-528SE Overview

The 528SE was conceived to provide the user with reference-level sub-bass performance, but in a much smaller enclosure and at a lower cost. Embodying many of the performance attributes of our legendary Gibraltar G-1 Sub-Bass System, yet realized to be more compact and affordable, the 528SE delivers extraordinary performance for the space challenged home theater enthusiast or two-channel audiophile.

This fresh design approach offers superiority in all regards over the standard issue R-528, through improved amplification, upgraded cabinet bracing and driver design. R-528SE still features both an active front-firing and a down-firing passive radiator, using the same custom design carbon fiber 12" active drive unit employed in the G-1. The 12" ABR passive radiator is also of a carbon fiber design. All in all the 528SE excels in drive, extension, ease and musicality wherein its speed mixes with greater body and heft to produce an altogether more profound musical event. Each 528SE is available in a stunning hand-rubbed piano black lacquer that will grace your living environment as well as your stereo music or film sound system. To further distinguish it from the standard version, the top and side name badges as well as the massive support feet are coated in nickel plated chrome for a sophisticated high-style appearance.

R-528SE represents the top-of-the-line in the Serie R range and is bestowed with superlative depth, scale and slam. Numbers do not tell the full story here, as the weight and power of R-528SE at full output is prodigious indeed. The R-528SE's 12' carbon fiber active bass-engine coupled to a VariCone™ 12" carbon Fibre ABR passive radiator produces the equivalent of a 16" driver in an even larger cabinet. The upgraded digital power amplifier employed produces an effortless 500 watts that means the R-528SE is capable of underpinning speakers with quality low-frequency extension that cost ten times its own price. The R-528SE always exhibits extraordinary speed, detail and bass impulse response.
