Record stores are dying off, sadly. Some still are putting up a fight - awesome. Do you support them?

I support many. Here's one I visit when I go into Northern California, Dimple Records.

Yes, when I can. I have two around me, but I only support one of them(Dr Freeclouds). I both purchase and donate to them on occasion.

I support a few here in the Twin Cities but buy on line when I can not find what I am looking for locally, especially Vinyl, SACD's and XRCD's.

I go to Princeton Record Exchange every weekend. :-) I used to buy just used LPs but now started buying new as well. Typically 10% off retail (every day new price) and they have a bin of 25-50% off LPs. Got some great new music for cheap in that bin!

We have a great store here in the Dallas area- Forever Young !!
Mark, I've purchased from Forever Young via their Amazon Storefront. They have some great HTF LPs listed!

I try to support local or (within 60 miles ), In Orlando a place called 'Rock & Roll Heaven' and in Jacksonville 'Yesterday & Today' but as locals call it JaxRecords..

Ditch and The Turntable are the two in Victoria I buy at. Not like the old days in Berwick St though where I used to be digging at least three times a week...

Yes. My local has decent stock of new and used records and CDs and has occasional offers of 50% off used and 20% off new items.
Siren Records - AN INDEPENDENT RECORD STORE SINCE 1988
Although they aren't technically a "record shop", Soundstage Direct is local as well and lets me stop by to pickup my orders.
I am also within a half hour of PREX so I make the occasional trip there as well.

I shop fairly often at the three Amoeba stores (Berkeley, SF and LA). The classical sections of each store have shrunk to a mere shadow of their former selves, but are still many times larger than most stores. When I get to Cambridge I like Looney Tunes on Boyston, not too far from Fenway Park, again for classical. On our annual London sojourn, I always go to Classical Music Exchange (now merged into one of the other Music Exchange shops (near the Notting Hill Gate tube station).

The Amoeba store in LA has turned into a tourist trap. the used vinyl is way over priced - even for the LA market. If anything, vinyl stores in LA are thriving. there are a dozen i frequent from south bay (long beach) to the west side out to los feliz, NoHo/burbank all the way out to pasadena and the foothills (clairemont). even riverside/san bernardino have a used vinyl scene. no shortage in so cal.

Rob,

Any used classical stores in LA? We'll be going down to LA every few months to babysit the grandkids, so I can take a look around. I was in Amoeba in Hollywood a couple of months ago for the first time in many years. I was only looking for some very specific classical records (London digitals from the '80's) and they were not expensive - $3-$6 each. However, I didn't look at the prices of other stuff there.

Thanks, Larry

Larry, for the man that has everything classical LP, you're too jaded and i mean that in the best way possible:) The last time i was at Amoeba they still had 4-5 isles of classical LPs in the back room. unfortunately none of my haunts have significant classical collections, which isn't a bad thing since they're also more likely to under price it, as in get-that-stuff-outta-my-store type discount.

a few months ago I scored a large collection of NM classic records 180g LSC resissues for ~9-12 ea. this was at the Rhino in clairemont but you have all those and originals too. you could always go back to "the record nazi" and try to out-fox the fox (Sandy). you just might walk out with the rarest of the rare under your arms and score one for the good guys:lol:

let me think about it and ill PM some options.

Thanks, Rob. Much appreciated. Those Classic Records reissues are a very good deal for the price you paid, particularly if you don't have the originals in good shape. I even have the 45's they did, and now I am getting Chad's reissues (which I think are the best of the bunch so far). Of course, he is only doing 30 or so of them, but I wouldn't be surprised if he eventually releases them as 45's.

Larry

PS. Rasputin's in Berkeley, about a block closer to campus than Amoeba's, is still around. They never have had the depth of classical, although there seemed to always be a lot of $1 records in the bargain bin. Lots of other genres.
