Quiet audiophile rooms can drive you crazy

The title is misleading. The article is not about AUDIOPHILE rooms, but anechoic chambers. And yes, having been to one, I can atest that they can drive you crazy.

I’ve been in the Orfield Anechoic Chamber and it’s spooky. After a few minutes your hearing threshold seems to drop. The blood rushing through your ears gets loud. Did you know your eyes make noise moving in their sockets? They do.

Hmmm, I thought your post was pretty good! (it shows up in emails for thread responses). We rely heavily on reflections to sense "space"...along of course, with vision.

agreed, wonder why Mike deleted it, made sense to me ..........

On the subject of audio and video, I too agree that video adds a lot to the overall experience.

When I combine video with audio (the audio does NOT need to be high resolution), the overall experience can be much more enjoyable than just the audio alone (even if high resolution audio).

While high resolution audio attempts to bring us closer to the performance, a HUGE Part of that performance is visual. The eyes tell you where the sound is coming from and the sound just follows. The audio and video work in tandem and the brain attaches the image to the sound.

Audio and video together create synergy.

PS. Just to emphasize the importance of video, think of Opera without the visual experiece.

I found the same and opened my sliding window a little . Eventually had to lessen the acoustic room treatment considerably. Now my man cave sounds natural and pleasant. No bass issues or unnecessary sound reflections. Trick is to add room conditioning bit by bit irrespective of the theoretical expensive sound engineers brief. My profile pic is old. I need to edit with pics of new room. Apologies . Only excuse is that listening to music keeps me too occupied to declutter the cave for pics .

Ahhhhhhhhhhhh

I do remember my years at Bell Labs, I got an invite to set in their anechoic chamber, after 15 minutes its just so weird. Your heart beat sounds like its on the outside, your breathing is noticed. I swear I could hear my eyes blink LOL. Just spooky, just too darn quiet, but amazing at the same time.
