After sipping on analogue for a while, today I received my Vpi Prime with the Ortofon Cadenza Bronze.

I'm really thrilled, finally a nice analogue setup. Love it!

Not an analogue expert yet, setting up the balance, cartridge load, azimuth, horizontal adjustment, anti skating all felt a little exciting, but with the Vpi instructional video it was a actually breeze.

Now I am happily analoging away, just having a good time.

YES!!!!!!!!! Congrats!! I have a question: given that you live in Germany, did you ever consider any of the German made tables? If not, what was your reason for going VPI? I'm a big VPI fan! Congrats again and enjoy that album: FOR DUKE sounds amazing!!!

Mike, "For Duke" was your recommendation and I would like to thank you for that. Great sounding album, really a jewel.

I was indeed looking at a number of alternatives. My first idea was the EAT C-Sharp with the Ortofon Quintet Black, which is nice. But it was not at the level after all I was aspiring to.

Also, I had the Clearaudio Performace DC/ Virtuoso MM at home for an audition based on a dealer's recommendation. Given what I have in my toy basket besides of analogue, I find that a somewhat strange recommendation. He should have recommended something higher up in the line-up.

Then I had a look at some Transrotors based on their looks, but they tend to lack the swing a bit.

Further I auditioned some Avids from the UK, the Diva 2 SP was quite nice. I think a really nice player with a separate motor control unit included, but still a little junior for my taste.

Quite a jewel was the Brinkmann Bardo, but the pricing is quite high for what you get, even in Germany and there are some discontinuity issues. But it is a great record player.

The Vpi offered a good balance of a deck to start off with and to be happy with for some time. I am getting separately the Phoenix Industries Eagle and Roadrunner to manage the motor, they should arrive early next week. But I really like how it plays and the Cadenza Bronze is a very nice fit for what I am after.

Excellent feedback! Thank you. Now you need a few more gems like Hugh Masakela - Hope. Man, there's so many. I'm not sure where to start. The Oscar Peterson - We Get Requests is one of my new favs. Enjoy!

Nice rig! Congrats!

Thanks, very kind. I really love the analogue sound.

But as Paul said, I'm doomed now. Been buying vinyls worth a couple of grand during the past two weeks :).

Congrats Kuoppis, that's a fantastic setup you have there. So lucky (and smart) that you were able to demo different turntables in order to compare design and sonic differences before your purchase. Now you can sit back and listen knowing you chose wisely without having to wonder, "what if".

I also have the Phoenix engineering PSU (Falcon in my case) and Road Runner tachometer. This combo is another one of the great bargains in analog playback for the performance they provide.

Did you find any Yello albums yet?

Great setup Mike with the Phoenix engineering gear, I'm looking forward to getting mine installed hopefully next week.

I indeed looked for some Yello albums at my dealer's, as they do have a record shop as well. Unfortunately no luck yet. Which albums would you recommend in particular?

Congratulations, Kuoppis!

A great looking setup.

Did you ever consider SME turntables? Or were the Avids the only UK brand you looked at?

Happy listening! [emoji4]

No SME on my list for this decision. Anything you would like to recommend?

For starters:

Yello - One Second
Yello - Flag
Yello - 1980–1985 The New Mix in One Go

....and any others you may find.

Take a look at their discography and sample some music. Heck, you may find them not to your liking and choose not to buy any of it, so best to sample first.

Very kind Mike, thanks for sharing. Of course I know Yello from way back when, but never got to actually buy some records.

The Vpi system just improved quite a bit today: Added the Phoenix Industries Eagle (motor control) and Roadrunner (tachometer). Everything became smoother, more balanced, better defined. Quite enjoyable indeed.

Hi Kuoppis,

Amazing how well those Phoenix Engineering boxes work with VPI, isn't it??!! I love mine. Congrats on assembling a top notch analog system. Hope you're enjoying some great music

Hi Mike, thank you for the kind words. I was not entirely sure what to expect from the mod. I had just auditioned another table with a motor control included and liked it, so I bought it.

But now I am really pleased how big a difference the Phoenix kit makes. As you say, works like a charm with the Vpi. Really amazing!

I was indeed in for a treat when testing it yesterday. Herb is my favorite Jazz guitar player:
