When I entered the darkened PrimaLuna inner sanctum, I was assaulted by bombast masquerading as music. “What is this?” I asked. “The Avatar soundtrack,” was the reply.

Listening to the PrimaLuna Prologue Premium CD player ($3799), Dialogue Premium preamplifier ($3199), and Dialogue Premium monoblock amplifiers ($6398/pair) drive Sonus Faber Amati Futura speakers via Nordost Valhalla 2 cabling, I thought the bass great. The music must have been getting to me, however, because my notes indicate a pervasive grayness, and sound that was sometimes bright and noisy, and sometimes flat. I have no way to make sense of that; all I know is how glad I was that I never tried to see Avatar.
