Got your attention?

Tomorrow will be 5 weeks since I closed the store (physically). We are still all working remotely - phone, email, etc.

But the past 5 weeks has been a bit of curse and a blessing at the same time. On the blessing side, no alarms and no clocks to watch. No racing here and there with the kids for various lessons and school functions. No feeling like things were just one step removed from out of control. Life at 100mph is now down to about 10mph.

I’m biking 16.4 miles a day and spending the days doing a million jobs from the mundane like cleaning the dust out of the cold air returns in the ceiling and cleaning the baseboards to redoing the outdoor grill area and my home theater. All things I’ve not touched in over 17 years.

Lots of great music and adult beverages at night round out the day.

This is definitely a weird time in our lives. I seriously have to really think “what day is it?” I rarely look at my watch to see what time it is. Why would I? I have no where to be.

The home schooling has been challenging to say the least. Today someone hacked into my daughters Zoom session with the teacher and class and showed the nastiest shit you could imagine. The police are involved, the ISP, etc. The school situation has definitely been the most challenging. Mike and new kids math don’t go together. Thankfully they know it.

But overall, I’m kind of liking this. I haven’t had a period of time like this where it’s pretty slack since the 80’s! I started my first company in the early 90’s after graduating University and it’s been full steam ahead since then.

How is business you guys are wondering? Surprisingly steady. MSB DAC’s, T+A SDV3100, some smaller Harbeth’s, lots of Lumin’s (lots!), lots of cables, etc. The used stuff has been flying out the doors (YEAH!). Yeah, steady for sure.

But if this is a retirement teaser...yeah, I like what I see. Yeah, I sure do.

Good for you Mike. Entertaining the thought, I mean.

But could you possibly stay away from all the audio goodies? Only one system at home? You need at least 5-6 top notch systems at a time.

Nah...

It’s not about retiring now...but maybe 15 years from now. If this is a teaser, I like it. I first have to wait for the kids to move out. That’s two more rooms for two more systems you know. [emoji41]

Ok, that’s another story. That sounds more like it.

And kids making room for more audio gear... mmmh... I would have one entire additional floor available [emoji15]. I like where you are going with this.

I'm a divorce lawyer in a firm that has 22 attorneys. We specialize exclusively in family law. Potential divorcees are generally not pulling the trigger now, but we expect business to be booming when things settle down.

I'm not going into downtown Chicago; working from home and practicing safe distance. Not interested in talking politics, but this is a deadly pandemic. Anyone who takes it lightly or cavalierly is taking risks and tempting fate, IMHO. Politics shouldn't even come into question - I'm not sure how the USA became so polarized to the extent that the most dangerous public health issue in over a century, affecting the entire world, has become a BLUE vs. RED issue. Crazy.

Plenty of time on my hands, but I've been spending most of my spare time managing our law firm's affairs during the pandemic. Spending an hour or so each day listening to some music to chill. Just got my Linkwitz Orion's up and running again driven by eight channels of Pass Labs amplification. Sometimes I wonder why I even bother listening to anything else! These open baffles really rock out!

Hope everyone is staying safe and building great pandemic playlists. If you have one, please share!

On May 1 I will be retired for one year, so this shutdown isn't too different. Granted, staying at home is starting to irritate me, but it's tolerable since I am single. What will be the challenge is when the lockdown is over, but we still need to wear face masks, and stay away from each other. That will be both difficult and a pain.

Well, with a railroad career at 46 years and counting I plan to 'pull the pin' at years end. Our company owns 4 railroads (short lines) in two states and my normal monthly road travel is around 2800-3000 miles. Since returning home from Florida at the beginning of the month I've gone through a little over a quarter tank of gas. Working from home keeps me busy and as I mentioned in Brad's thread, business on our railroads is up.

I pulled the pin July 7 , 2010 after 37 1/2 years in the Telecommunications Industry. The wife retired in 2014 after 30 years with the DOJ. Best decisions we have ever made.

U like the audio action too much to retire, even in 15 years......LOL

I technically have a couple years before retirement, however, I keep hoping maybe an early opportunity might come along.

I really don't get how they are teaching math these days either. I want to help but I'm afraid my way would confuse them more.

I kicked my soul-sucking corporate job to the curb in 2016. Life is better now. I have an electronics development consulting business that keeps my head in the game. I get to choose the customers I work with and the projects I work on. The shelter at home order here in Colorado hasn’t changed much as I work from home anyway.

I had plans to ease out of my business at the end of this year. This working from home thing is driving me nuts. I have a need to be in the mix in a big conference room solving problems with my peeps. I've got a great team in place. The majority owner of the business (an international corporation) loves us. I want to go but I'm going to need something else meaningful to do. I will be giving that more attention now that I've had an unwilling dry run at retirement.

Eric

I used to be involved with auto racing & track-day events, but can you think of any well-known older race car drivers who are still quick...?

My retirement problem is that - except for a stint in the military long ago - as an adult I have always worked in my main hobby. :audiophile:

What would I do differently? :doubtful:  :sigh:

Im 54. In 2008 I built a 4000sq ft house in Seattle. There was a 4 man rock in my back yard I wanted moved to line out the landscaping. I tried to role it onto a piece of wood to drag it. 2 disc exploded in my back. I figure that incident is costing me $1M in lost wages. I'm running my own shop and tried to be union but could never find employee with the right attitude to be successful so I told the general I service I'm out.

I can not sit at home. I'm still very mobile thanks to a variety of shots that are based on regenerative medicine. If you have seen my post on Surviving a Covid Infection, you can see regular MD have failed me time and time again where Naturopathic dotors have stepped in with their "Unproven" techniques and kept me very mobile. Unfortunatly not mobile enough to do a hard 8 hour day as long as it takes to get the job done.

I am going to transition into small projects. Probably use Home Advisor as a lead bank. If anyone want an audio Power Supply done right I will fly around the country in time. Let me know if you need anything Mike. Through all my home experiments and working with Ultrafast, I have learned a lot about audio power and how to do it right.

My wife and I are looking for 3 to 5 acre on an Island around here. I have gotten into the Charles Dowding no dig gardening techniques and started my own sustainable food production. When we get the land, I'm building a new home, with nice audio room layout, and putting in a real 1/2 to 1 acre garden with intent to sell some product.
