I believe you could order the units with RCA in/outputs. I would check on the output/input impedence of the GAT tape loop to ensure good comparability. The GAT output impedence is 100 ohms so that is a good start.

I totally agree Mark. The CP800 hits way above its price point. I've just been a little disappointed in Classe's lack of support for it. The promised DAC upgrade, the promised phono stage for it, airplay, etc., all left a bitter taste in my mouth. But as a pure preamp, it's tough to beat for the price.

McIntosh C50/C2500/C2300 come to mind and the C50 is rising to the top. I think I'd like the tone controls on the preamp as opposed to adding an equalizer although I am not opposed to that option. Thoughts?

The Mcintosh c220(which I have) has tone controls and is a fine pre-amp. IMHO, a graphic equalizer is a waste.

I think the C50 might be in my future. I just want to see if anything revolutionary comes out of CES.
 
The C50 is a great choice. The tone controls have a defeat button, so if you don't want it in, just select that. Also, centering the tone controls on zero also puts them in a defeat mode. An advantage of the defeat button is you can keep your tone controls set in a favorite position and simply take them all out at once with the defeat button so you can go right back to them without having to readjust them all.

If you musty have a separate tone control/equalizer, the Millennia NESQ-4 is a great choice.

Thanks Gary. I've been looking at the NSEQ-4 for a while but I think I will try the C50 first.
