Power came back on at 7:30 PM; almost 20 hours after it went off.

That's worse than in third world countries. Because in those countries, people expect it to be the norm and (those with means) have generators in their homes that come on automatically. They don't even notice.
Yeah, but what happens when your generator runs out of fuel and the power is still out?
Living in a remote sparsely populated part of Northern California, at the end of the PG&E line, our power goes out several times a year, usually due to winter storms. I have a 8kw Kubota diesel generator that powers the whole house, but it needs to be activated manually. It does the job beautifully, and life goes on as normal, including the music, which sounds every bit as good as when powered by the grid. Surprisingly, PG&E did not shut off our power this week, even though they did in many other parts of Sonoma County!![]()
(The solar system only works when connected to the grid.)
I hope you are all ok. Watched some of the news coverage last night. Wow. Very scary.

Its pretty scary in SoCal right now. Some very bad fires down near LA.
