As you may know, I am a pretty good expert on mid-fi legacy tables. But I am really looking at one of these listed below...

Looking to get one of these. One is obviously way above the others but what I really want to hear ?> The Pros and Cons of each...completely open review

  • Music Hall MMF 2.2
  • Pro-Jet Debut III
  • VPI Traveler

The VPI would be the Ultimate EXPENSIVE move (for me) but I may never need another table again...but if I could get the same sound out of the Music hall, it would be about 35% the cost...

Help appreciated..just want HONEST opinions. This choice will have me really tailoring back my tables and going with THE ONE (okay, I would still have two others...lol)

All three are good entry level tables. If it were me I'd go with the VPI Traveler. Every review of VPI tables I've read have been nothing less than stellar.

That is where I am leaning..If I am going to do it, going to do it right...LOL

Rob, I started back in to vinyl a few years back. My first new TT in 20 years was a Music Hall MMF 5. It was a good table, and really gave me that beautiful analog sound that I had missed.
Then I decided to make a move up,something that I would keep for a long time. I pre-ordered a VPI Classic from Music Direct, I got one of the very first ones they got in, and I still have it !!

Get the VPI, you will save money in the long run, trust me.

Now looking at the ClearAudio Concept ...working with Jeff from AV/Solutions...Great guy...Have to think before pulling the trigger....;)

Rob the Rega turntables are also good in that price range, the RP3 or used P3-24 (which I have). Lots of cartridge choices and upgrade tweaks. But that traveler sure looks nice (and read Stephen Mejas review in stereophile).

Whatever you choose, enjoy! And have fun finding records at tag sales, etc.

I don't know anything about basis but I've had mmf and most of the vpi's both companies are good tables for the money spent, but if that clearaudio is in the same pricerange. That is probably the way I would go.
I'd check to see what is the most upgradable one . It's always fun to better your setup with an upgrade over a new piece of gear.
But that's just me.
Good luck I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. I would trust Jeff to get you into the right one.

Thanks everyone...Still deciding IF I am going to get anything but I did decide if I do, I would go with Jeff and the ClearAudio....

Again my thanks to all...

Jeff is a terrific help you set things up too. There is a shark who lives near Jeff....and I keep wondering, why doesn't he have a killer table yet? Hmmm....who could that be? :)

Rob... Dealing with Jeff is a pleasure. And he does seem to know a thing or two about turntables!!!

Oh Yeah...had fun chatting...Still trying to make up my mind..lol

But its getting closer to made up..Not about what to buy..but SHOULD I BUY...I have an awesome DIY table I built. Great motor, great arm...the one in my avatar..and it sounds wonderful..but I am wondering IF I am missing anything...sometimes you don't know what you don't know...So I am trying to justify will I get MORE or will I go "Oh crap...I had that sound before"...Topic for the forum

Rob, I hear you. Sometimes I get so worked up about something that I think I need that I just step back a try to keep myself occupied with something else for a few days. Then I assess the situation with a clearer view and go from there. Of course you could always set-up one table with a mono cartridge...:p
