Playlist file access question.

I have two identical Toshiba 1TB USB drives for my Lumin. One I use, and the other is a backup. They have the same directory structure, and the same files in every directory. When I add new files to the drives, I do both at the same time. Because of that I never really distinguished one from the other. So, that means after adding files I might put a different drive back on the Lumin.

One thing I have noticed over time is that sometimes a playlist will not play all files in the playlist. If I go to that file then it jumps to a file it will play. I have then been deleting the non playing files, and then re-adding them. Obviously, this is a pain in the butt, but fortunately it doesn't happen often.

Anyway, last night I had to re-add two non playing CDs to a playlist, and it occurred to me that maybe I made the playlist on one drive, but am now using the other drive, and that might be why the files seem to disappear from the playlist. Maybe while the directory structure is the same on both drives, the actual file location might be different on each drive.

So, my question is how does a playlist know where a file is when it needs to play it?

As per OpenHome / UPnP AV standard, the music is accessed via a URL for HTTP access. It is the job of the UPnP music library server to assign a unique URL for each music, regardless of whether it's MinimServer running on NAS or the built-in USB music server running on Lumin player.

Are you saying each song in a playlist has a URL, and these URLs can be different between two identical USB drives?

For the Lumin built-in USB music access, the URL is dependent on the exact path of each music file. What appears to be same may not necessarily be the same, however, due to file system complexities such as case insensitivity in Windows but sensitivity in Linux, etc.
