Phison Audio PD2 Preamp/DAC

For a limited time the PD2 is going to come with 1 free future DAC upgrade. This means the next cutting edge DAC Sonny comes up with for the PD2 will be upgraded for free! I hear rumours it will be the mother of all discrete 1 bit DSD DAC's combined with the mother of all PCM DAC's :)

Hi Mike,

Just want to give a shout-out to you. I am still enjoying very much the Superstream streamer you introduced. I have no doubt about you coming out killer products and excited to follow the development. Anyway, is the SOTA music server ready? Could you give more info about the server? :)

If I from Canada and rich, I would like to work for you for free. :P

Ha ha! The server is still a little ways away. I'm going to say June 1st to be safe, and if ready earlier then it will be a surprise. I don't like promising dates if I'm unable to deliver on them. It's just bad business otherwise. Sorry but you will have to wait for details on this one :)

For free! Come to Canada and I'll have a job for you :)!

Great news guys. It's been decided that Sonny is going to handle the North American market direct now. To remain loyal to my existing clients, once ready, I will send out replacement units to demo. If my clients are impressed after the demo, I will give a full cash refund for all of the Phison products.

And yes my server still will be available for free demos for all PD2 owners who want to get the best out of their PD2's. I can ship internationally to any region on the planet.

To extend my appreciation to the team at Phison, I decided to offer a 25% discount as well as free international shipping for my server to Phison PD2 owners. Contact me for details.

Now that the new Ayre QX-5 Twenty DAC with the ESS 9038 Pro has been released, let's hope Sonny adopts my idea of building a single DAC board with both the 9038 Pro combined with a similar 1 bit DAC to the T+A DAC 8 DSD for the next DAC board upgrade. If he combines that with the Ethernet interface I've been hammering down his throat for the past 6 months, the competition will have something to fear :)

Blizz, my pal finally hooked me up with a PC server of great quality.

In the coming weeks, I will compare Aries with Lpsu, the server in core mode windows 2012, Server with Linux Dafile and your streamer project.

I will let you know the results. It may take awhile as i am less 'outer adept than you are.

Lemme know when you get that Linux patch for audiolinux!

Sounds good but that project is way outdated now. Based on user feedback, what's been determined is the results all depend on how good your DAC responds to external upsampling, and how good the USB interface is. If it has a poor USB interface implementation, you must use better supplies, and fiber isolation combined with LPS to power them. It seems to me it's just a huge waste putting all of the extra money into the transport, just so the DAC manufacturer can save $10-15 on the USB interface BOM. I actually found a better device for the purpose with even lower power consumption so the ifi Ipower can run off of it. I'll be selling it turn key on my website preloaded with Roonserver for around $300 soon. But it can also run the NAA/AirPlay image as well.

Very kool.

Yes it is. I'm excited. For the mini server I'll be selling, just think Sonore Microrendu, only it runs the Roonserver rather than roonbridge. So all you need is it and a mobile device for the GUI and you're set. For file storage, you can plug a hard drive direct into USB, or it can find files on any network connected NAS or computer. It's about the size of an American package of cigarettes, and can be plugged in to any DAC direct with a simple adapter rather than cable. The quality will be dependant on the DAC's USB interface combined with the power supply used. I will recommend the Ifi Ipower as the base supply. But anything 5v 2 amp minimum will work. From my tests so far with a good supply, it kills all of the computers I have. MacBook Pro, Macmini, MacBook Air, 2 different Intel NUC's, HP tower with I7 processor.

Miv,

I may be buying this Dac from a friend Geardaddy.

What updates are now going on with the Dac from the "older" 1st bought dacs?
