I am in the process of re-installing my stereo in a dedicated listening room which has recently been repaired. I use ASC Tube Traps and Tower Slims, and I think the stereo sounds great in the room, but I have never plotted any frequency response chart or measured sound decay characteristics.

Before I put the stereo back in the room I would like to take a more professional and scientific approach to room analysis and to acoustic treatment.

Has anyone engaged Performance Acoustics Labs ("PAL") to analyze his/her listening room and to make specific acoustic treatment suggestions based on measured acoustic analysis of the room?

If not PAL is there any other science/measurement based firm you would recommend?

Thank you.

PAL really doesn't exist any longer, in that Mike Latvis is now focused on his Harmonic Resolution Systems (HRS). You should contact Nyal Mellor @ Acoustic Frontiers. He is up in the Bay Area, and by reports of folks on this forum is extremely competent.

I'm using Acoustic Frontiers (Nyal Mellor) based in California although I live in Florida. I used AF to analyze my FR listening room and felt the comprehensive report and analysis was useful in understanding the effectiveness of the acoustic treatments I had installed.

I finally decided to build a purposed stereo listening room, although it's also used to watch weekend movies. AF determined the optimum room dimensions based on my building plans, designed the isolated wall/ceiling system, and prepared computer based analysis drawings for the acoustic interior space.

I realized my original objective "achieving the best acoustic space possible", was too complex, costly, and space consuming. The media room already sounds several orders of magnitude better than the FR. In addition to the acoustic wall/ceiling system, it uses the diffusion ceiling "clouds" and panels moved from the FR. I'm now using AF to analyze the current room acoustics to determine what further steps may be cost effective.

The process involves AF mailing audio frequency measuring equipment, following simple instructions, and returning the equipment. AF performs computer analysis, prepares and emails a report of the results, discusses the rooms acoustic issues with you via phone, and if further analysis is required to determine specific acoustic devices and placements.
