PC had a total hip replacement yesterday!

Glad it all went well and hope recovery continues to go well.

Joint replacements are common these days I wonder what the cause of the damage is.

In my case, 10 years training assiduously as a ballet dancer, then taking up motorcycle roadracing, and then after last, motorsports photojournalism, carrying heavy camera gear around Grand Prix racetracks.

Don't you have a new First Sounds pre-amp recently arrived, or am I confusing you? That seems like just the thing to make recovery a little easier, with the [bonus] it has no remote so you have to get up. And contrary to the fellow who said streaming only, I think getting up regularly to flip the record will be good therapy.

Best wishes for speedy recovery.

Thanks, Ken, but my dancing days are over...I'll be a helluva pedestrian, though. ;)

Don't be so sure. My next door neighbor had her hip replaced last year, PT for 3 times a week for 3 weeks. She walks the beach everyday, rides her bike a lot and yes they go dancing. So you will do fine if you stay active and mobile. Healing is slow, but it does work when you are active..

I played collegiate golf which ultimately caused degenerative arthritis in both hips. Now I’m back to playing golf as often as I can get out there. Nothing feels better than walking for miles on my new hips. Like Steve Austin - better, stronger, faster!

Stephen - How are you doing? Dancing yet?

Hi Mike,
No, presently, I'm pretty stiff and sore. Post-op swelling, inflammation, and stiffness set in Tuesday night and has been with me since. I'm using gel ice packs on my hip at the incision, thigh, and knee several times a day. The swelling, stiffness and soreness impact my sleep at night, so I am also dealing with a lot of fatigue during the day.

Moreover, I just noticed this morning getting out of bed that I have a nice bruise near my lower left thigh and calf, no doubt from the procedure. It's "old-bruise" colored rather than new bruise, so I imagine its been there a while, and I simply didn't notice it until today.

My new hip and the incision feel okay for the most part, mostly it's the post-op swelling that is driving my discomfort.

Hoping this will subside over the next two weeks or so.

Duplicate post.

Bugs.

Not bugs. It has to do with the method our members want to upload pictures which requires a bloated AJAX upload interface. We can go back to the stock upload interface, but folks didn’t like it. Again, not a bug.

Stephen - All of us hope for a speedy recovery. Hang in there and take care of yourself.

Stephen:

Best wishes for your recovery. What type of post surgery therapy are they recommending, if any (apart from listening to anything that would cause you to get up and dance)? Are they indicating any limitations after you're fully recovered? I suppose, given our stay at home status, is easier to take.

I can only assume that no comments on your new hip means all has gone well and you are better than before.

I have two family members that had their first replacement and could not get the second one done.

Hope it's a no news is good news.
Brad

I'm now 20 months past the first hip replacement and 14 months past the second. Most of my mobility is back; not much pain at all. The only think I'm concerned about is skiing again, as I was told the artificial hips can dislocate from a funky fall. Otherwise, it's a highly successful procedure. Just need to make sure you research your orthopedic surgeon well. Find the guy or gal who does the most procedures in your area and you can't go wrong!

Just underwent a total hip joint replacement yesterday. Went in for prep around 10 AM, had surgery around noon, spent the afternoon in recovery and was discharged last night and came home.

I'm up and moving about last night and this morning with my walker. I only had to take 1 x 5mg Percoset yesterday at 5 PM in the recovery room last night and 1 tablet last night before bed, but I've been on regular Tylenol since.

Most of my discomfort is just muscle soreness and stiffness, as if you overdid a workout in the gym.

I get up and move around every half an hour and change positions frequently.

Given the discomfort I've been in for the better of a year now, this is a walk in the park.

Amazing what they can do these: total hip replacement at lunch, home in the evening.

Cheers, gang.

WOW!!!

Congrats!!!

I had my left hip replaced in 2010, and was hospitalized for several days afterward, which was the norm back then.

Unfortunately, I need to have it replaced again, but they don't want to do it because they used a lot of adhesives in the first surgery...

I know you are always on the go but. You couldn't have worn it out in 10 years. I hope they figure out something for you Jim.
