I received this email this morning from Pass regarding some of the nice features of the new Statement Pass XS Phono:
"From Pass re: my XS Phono:
"Yes. it really is an amazing piece, a huge step up from the Xp-25..... and there are some tricks that make ithe XS-phono even more useful.
As you are aware the inputs do not discriminate between cartridge types...... that's simply taken care of with the gain options. What you may not be aware of is that this made loading and the RIAA curve an interesting circuit... with some not so obvious advantages.
Most XS Phono users will be set up with MC cartridges and will simply ignore the capacitive loading...... but having said that it will still have a moderate impact in that "more-capacitance" somewhat takes the edge off the top end with some MC cartridges. So lets say they have an LP that's a little bit brittle on the top end. The user can manually add 100pf - 200pf for that one play. When done a keystroke on the input selector button, takes them right back to the saved value.
Same deal with resistive loading, they can lower the ohm value to damp bottom end for that one play, tap the input selector and go right back to the saved (ideal) value when done.
My favorite function is "mute", love those quiet needle drops."
