OK...just recently purchased the Oppo BDP-105D universal disc player. Right now, I'm feeding my Devialet 400 via the digital outputs. The CD signal is direct through the coax, and the SACD\BluRay\DVD-A signal is stripped vial a HDMI de-embedder and sent to the Devialet via coax. My primary interest in this is DSD SACD.

It sounds fine, but I am intrigued by the ModWright mods for this player. They upgrade the Oppo DAC to a tube output and thus, I would feed the new analog outputs to the Devialet.

Would it be a mistake to send a digital signal converted to analog by the modded Oppo and then converted back to digital inside the Devialet?

AD/DA is always a bad idea.

If you are using the OPPO as a digital transport for SACD, I would recommend getting the Audiopraise Vanity HD board. It outputs DSD via spdif. I don't know if the Devialet accepts DSD via spdif. If not, the Vanity board converts DSD to 176.2 kHz PCM via proprietary algorism. For regular PCM signal, it reclocks before sending to the DAC. Final result is quite a bit better than what the originally OPPO does. Only downside is, the board only works in an OPPO 103/103D.

To improve performance further, you can install DIY linear power supply to the OPPO. Changing the IEC and wire also make audible difference. All the mods are reversible.

That's very interesting. I had no idea such a thing existed!
I'm not married to the 105D...I could replace it with a 103D if I need to.
Thank you for the info.
