Aries 3 Turntable Manual (Word Format)
THE ARIES 3 IS THE PERFECT CHOICE FOR THOSE WHO WANT NEAR-HR-XPERFORMANCE IN A SMALLER SIZE.
The 1.75"-thick platter is comprised of non-resonant acrylic and incorporates an inverted bearing similar to that used in the HR-X. The bearing shaft is 60 Rockwell hardness, ground and polished, and the platter rotates on a Teflon/Delrin composit thrust plate for ultra low noise.
The solid stainless steel motor assembly is almost 15 pounds and contains a smooth 300-RPM synchronous motor with Delrin motor pulley. This is a very low noise system with the fundamental resonance of the motor at 5 Hertz which is well below the frequency a cartridge can reproduce.
The Aries 3 chassis is made from a sandwich of 2 layers of 5/8” polished black acrylic top and bottom with a 5/8” thick aluminum center section, exactly like the HR-X chassis design which provides stability and damping. This system creates an inert, quiet, and stable platform for the platter and tonearm to sit on. The plinth is supported by four aluminum cones, the bottoms of which are composed of hardened steel balls. The cone suspension when applied to the laminated HR-X type chassis provides outstanding rigidity and a wealth of information from the record grooves. They are adjustable for leveling.
The Aries 3 circular armboard is a 4” Sdiameter, 1" thick black acrylic that mates sonically with the HR-X style laminated chassis.
The Aries 3 is available with or without a VPI tonearm.
For best sound VPI recommends the Aries 3 with JMW-10.5i tonearm for a truly musical system.
The Aries 3 can be taken to the next level by adding VPI’s Synchronous Drive System, periphery ring, new Mini TNT feet, and HR-X center weight at an additional cost.
SIZE - 22" X 16"

I don't really know much about TT, but I do like the look of the Aries 3 though :D

Would like to know how it compares to the Classic 3.

Joe - Jon will bring my Avid up to NY for you! :)

Joe...the Classic line (Classic 1 or Classic 3) have gotten in general much better reviews than when the Aries 3 came out. My guess is the Classic 3 is the better sounding table and pretty much for the same money. Plus you can get that Rosewood veneer on the Classic 3, which gives it kind of a vintage table look. My vote is Classic 3.

Big big big +1.

I'll have to agree with Cyril. The classic 3 is just what it is:

A Classic:audiophile:

Thanks Bob and Cyril,

That's the one I ordered, the Classic 3 in Rosewood like Mike's. I am going to the dark side. ;)

I thought that the latest one was the Classic 4?

* Joe, do you have albums to spin? ...A fair bunch? ...All music genres?

It is....but the sweet spot is the 3. The 4
has some advantages....but not worth it for me....Classic 3 in Rosewood = yummy.
