One hour and 48 minutes phone call with Jeff

A quick quick 45 minute call? LMAO. I love Jeff. We bust his ass, but he's a wonderful guy. He's my go to guy for gear and everything vinyl. He's Audiosharks Fremer!

I tease him too..but you know, I am blaming him for the long calls but I am the guy on the other end WANTING to hear and learn from him...so it is a compliment even if I am giving him a rash..LOL

The man is incredible. I am not the type who likes to be "told what to do". I like to hear suggestions and then an explanation of WHY. He does that so things gel and make sense. You can tell he has "been there" and made the same right choices and the same goofs as we all have...in other words, he doesn't just talk out his...yeah, you get it...LOL

Well.....I hope he is NOT like Fremer (I'd go to and trust Rob, Jeff or Jim, long before I'd go to Fremer). In my 1+ hour conversation with him I found Jeff very knowledgeable on many things, especially cartridges and amplifiers, etc. That said though, he told me that he is not used to or geared towards being of much service to guys like me who are not audiophiles and just into hi-fi. That said though, while we disagreed on turntables, he took an hour+ of his time to educate me on a couple of things I knew next to nothing or nothing about and above that, I feel he went out of his way to get me some fabulous suggestions for amps and room treatment, etc!! For that, the kudos go to Jeff! Thank you Jeff for going outside the box for me with your suggestions. I'm working on room treatment and you have chatted me into going with an Ortofon 2M Bronze cart for my Denon, although it will be some time before I can get the cart (a few months at the least, most likely a lot longer though. saving for it is the easy part actually. Psyching myself into spending that kind of money on a cart is another process all together even though I know it is a good choice).

I've spoken to Mike and emailed with him many times over many years. I believe Nelson has as well. He has never steered me wrong, in fact, he gave me out-of-the-box suggestions which no one else could come up with that solved some issues with a previous cartridge I owned. He's also the person who talked me out of a more expensive table. I was talking all kinds of big dollar tables. I would ask him, "Mike, what about the Innovation wood? What about the Basis? What about the SME? Etc., etc." He gave me some great recommendations - including the setup I have now.

If you ever get a chance, watch his two DVD's on vinyl. Your opinion may change. Not only are they very informative, but actually quite humorous.

I have heard he is entertaining, but I have seen an interview with him on Steve Wilkenson's show and he came off a bit snobby and suggestive that one needs to spend at least $10k for a "proper, fine" sound system. He also hates CDs and people who have CDs. He has the right to his opinion, but not to make it the law of the land and bash others who enjoy vinyl and CDs and can do critical listening with both, etc. I've also seen a entire lecture/demo on turntable setup he did from an audio show and to suggest that everyone should have the same tools he has when most of us don't even have access to such things in the first place is ludicrous. I guess all that just turned me off. I don't think he is very approachable either and I'm glad I didn't run into him at the SHOW. If I told him my only vinyl set up currently or that I also listen to CDs, I'd be afraid of what would happen so I don't dare. I'm surprised he talked you out of an "expensive" TT, but tables like a VPI or Concept, etc. are still extremely expensive for someone like me and just not worth my consideration for my own use.
