In other words a short call....LOL

Jeff is such an amazing wealth of information...I either learn something new, confirm something old or debunk something questioned.

Anyway, had to order a Clearaudio Concept MC cart....My AT OC9 went south...started having an imbalance in output (right channel spot on, left about 1.5 to 2 DB lower which is ALOT) . 4th AT cart failure so done. Their quality control has gone SOUTH.

Looking forward to getting my new cart !!!

Hey Mike...you get that table dialed in yet ? I hear its harder than putting together a bicycle at Christmas...LOL

See what this forum has done to the size of your wallet! Congrats on the new cart!

I don't even know if it's possible to talk to Jeff for under an hour...:D

Yes, AT carts are a dice roll. There are tons of counterfeits out there as well. With AT it seems the higher you go in price the more dicey the cart. Interesting though that the AT95E seems to be the strongest cart of the line. That's probably because the specs are so lenient so they are safe to mass produce and somehow they tend to last as expected. The only gamble is the sound, you could easily end up with a bad cart as well as a good one. AT sold out a long time ago and they use cheap parts. Unlike Ortofon for instance that has been making nothing but carts since time and memorial and from the same place. That's why their carts are consistent and the higher you go the better. Both Jeff at AV Solutions and Jim at Osage Audio can and would tell you the same and explain it far better. (They have the same opinion in this area). I hear that clear audio cart is supposed to be pretty good.

Well...guess what ? Canceled the order, spoke with Jeff as I found the culprit. You wont believe it....

DIRTY STYLUS...never in a million years would I have
1) Thought my stylus was dirty
2) That it could lower a channel signal

Strange but true...

And what I think is the root cause ? I had used grooveglide on a bunch of records...NO MORE...

Happy Dance

Oh man that groove glide will get ya eventually. Happened to me on a grado mm.
I used it alot when I first heard of it several years ago. Definitely lubricates and helps albums.
But not your cartridge!!!! I got yelled at 10 years ago for using it and gunking up my grado reference . Haven't touched it since. Glad you found out what was going on.

I hate to say I told ya, but I did.:) That's half the reason I don't use it or any lubricant. The other half is the fact that I'd have to re-clean the record before putting it away. You don't want to put a record in a poly sleeve with anything on it.
Rob, I recommend you re-clean those records if you haven't already. Your home brew should take care of it if it's a good recipe if not, use the cleaners you got from Jeff.
Glad it didn't cost you a new cart! Now go clean that cart and it will be right as rain.

It's dialed in to perfection! Now I'm just listening and enjoying. The new vinyl rig can be described in one word: Transparent.

wish I could say the same...Called Jeff today and said "Order that cart". I have confirmed my issue is an imbalance in the AT cart (left channel about 20% weaker)

So I didn't get my Concept table and my Phonomena II to be held back but a sub par cart...I am looking forward to the Concept MC cart ...seems like its a perfect match (according to this reviewer)
