I was talking with a computer expert earlier today and he was saying that it is best to buy another computer than replacing XP in ours.

Is this a move from Apple? Can they do something like that!

Are Apple's people living on a better planet than Window's people?

Rob? ....Perhaps I should have get an iFone?

Joe, are you also an Apple's cult member? ...And happier?

Apple? They had nothing to do with it. XP is the only OS that works....so let's abandon it. Good plan. They are laying the ground work for Windows 9 (force you to upgrade and spend $$$$). As a side, Apple offers Operating System upgrades for FREE or a fraction of what MS charges ($20 vs $200 for example). Just upgraded all my Mac's to the latest version of Mac OS X (called Maverick) for FREE: https://www.apple.com/osx/

Are Apple's people living on a better planet than Window's people?

Hell yes. This isn't some hyperbole Bob. I could give you a thousand reasons why. But basically, your life will be better. 1000 times less frustrating. More efficient and productive. As we say in the Mac world - it just works!

Rob? ....Perhaps I should have get an iFone?

It's iphone and heck yes.

I think he's a recent convert.

I have both machines/os's. I've had Apple since the first Mac came out in 1984 and Windows since Win 3.11. For the most part, I am pretty careful what I do and both can be very stable. OS X has been more satisfying overall but I do enjoy the challenge of figuring things out so I keep my hands in both worlds. Once I "convert" someone to Apple machines, they thrive and mostly never call me again for help. :)

Bob

Your expert is right. The cost of buying new Windows software and upgrading RAM will more than half of the cost of a new Windows machine. If you decide to move to Apple, be prepared for some sticker shock in relation to the cost difference for comparable hardware. I also have owned and used both a various time for the last two decades and you can get used to either. As for changing at this point it depends on if you want the "new learning experience" and software operating differences.

Easy upgrade. Just upgrade your Windows XP machine to Windows 7 and be happy....Don't joint the Apple cult unless you want to start asking questions like

"Will this work on a MAC?"

XP is NOT the only OS that works ...But it has worked for a VERY VERY VERY Long time...Can't say that about any Apple OS. Vista was a stop gap and I freely admit should never have been released. Windows 7 is XP on steroids and still spanks Apple - every time....

Seriously Mike, people are not dumb...and if it was NOT the case,l Microsoft would not have 92% OS market share - People would have switched...so there is a reason they haven't...Its just a toy. very good for kids.

The fact remains Rob that Windows is plagued with problems and many users (other than geeks) just don't like it. If you take a look at OS manual installs - the numbers are very different. Windows marketshare slipped below 90% for the first time ever.

I can run windows on my Mac - if I wanted to - but users cannot run Mac OS on Windows. Seems to me that Mac OS has many advantages - including this one.

We will never agree....I used to be a big Windows user - but years of frustrations (windows 95, ME, 98) lead me to the Mac side 14 years ago and I haven't looked back.

Yes, that's what he was saying.

* Because money doesn't grow on my backyard's trees, but only love and peace, I will be probably purchasing a new Windows (7 or 8 or 9 or 10) PC within the next two years.
Meanwhile I will get mine upgraded; more RAM, deleting unnecessary programs, defragging it, physically cleaning it inside, and getting more juice/speed out of it for its last stretch of operation in my life.

The time has come once more to do a Spring cleanup. .. Happy First Day Of Spring 2014!
Some' good's gonna come in the next few days and weeks and months and years ... It's already on today.

Easy upgrade. Just upgrade your Windows XP machine to Windows 7 and be happy....

I was told that it was financially sound to simply purchase a new computer (stability); no? ...The new Windows program cost around $150, and not everyone can install it properly without encountering some "snapshots" (mouse taking a nap in her hammock inside my PC; as just one example).

well, we'll have to disagree mike. The OS's you quoted were ancient. Windows 98 was LOVED. Windows XP was (and still is) which is why some companies are paying for extended support. Like I said, the numbers speak for themselves. If MAC OS was so good, it would have taken over...its had 30 years to try...and hasn't ...

Anyway, Bob, windows XP to windows 7 is a CLEAN install. Its not a upgrade so you would have to copy off your saved files. Run the install and you are set. Or as the tech said, PC's are so cheap now, get a new one with Win 8.

Mike, Windows 95, ME, 98, 2000 were turtles compared to XP and 7. ...Vista sunk at the ocean's bottom, under the sharks.

I probably would switch to Apple, but like I said; money doesn't fall from the sky where I exist.

Eventually; bye bye my little dear lovey IBM ThinkCentre, and I will be shopping for a smart PC screen. ...Run most likely by Microsoft. ...And surfing the Internet from Google (on-the-go) with my new Motorola Moto G.

Can you imagine? ...How many people right now are going through this huge Windows XP change! ...April 8! :disbelief:

And maybe I will get a powerful laptop, with a Blu-ray drive and all that jazz. ...Five hundred bucks? ...A second-hand one.

Bob - I've used every version of Windows - including 8. They all create one big frustrating user experience. Using Windows is like trying to untangle a great big knot.

Ok Rob; I'm going to investigate that one. ...Trying to save my IBM PC, and perhaps get Windows 8 from a laptop.

But! Windows XP is still going to run right? It's just that it won't be supported no more right?

My brother, Claude, and his wife and two kids (25 and 35), are all Apple users, and very big big time!
Claude has the latest state-of-the-art Apple Mac, and iPad, ...plus his son is an Apple Mac dealer/installer/programmer expert.

Thing is that they live 3,000 miles from me. Yeah for sure I visited him few times and saw his latest Mac (WoW, a $5,000 toy!), with everything inside the screen, no box, no wires, no nothing, just a gorgeous all-in-one integrated $5,000 screen!
Made me dream a little bit, but I'm realistic in life; I'm not the same financial guy that I was fifteen years ago.

I'll get what's best for my own lifestyle.

I love everything; Apple, Microsoft, and all the gorgeous women. ...With music, and movies, and everything else that is good inside this planet.

It's not the end of the world yet; and when it'll come I'll be ready and it'll be the best day of our lives.
Meanwhile today is the best day of my life. :)
