Norway becomes first country to switch off FM radio

Does that mean my wonderful magnum dynalab 108T SE won’t work?!?! Listened to it for several hours today and didn’t miss a digital anything. (I acknowledge though that I’m riding the tail of a fading format, but I sure do like it, and am blessed with three or four stations that make it worth my effort).

Unfortunately yes. Eventually, all FM radio stations will be transmitting digitally. But here in the USA this is not likely to happen for a few more years.

Yep. My question was rhetorical. I suspect you’re right, which is one reason why I got a DAC built into the 108t, so that it didn’t become a total brick, and I could continue to enjoy the gorgeous tube output stage.

I don't see this happening here in the US any time soon. There are just too many cars with AM/FM radios, orders of magnitude more than there are people in Norway itself.

Smax, I agree with you. Too many cars and homes with standard radio's. Maybe in 30 to 50 years if they start putting HD radios's in every car sold now. I listen to a lot of FM for music and sports talk while in the car. I was initially impressed with Satellite Radio when it first came out but now, many stations play MP-3 and it sounds like crap for the most part. So why not just stick with FM even if its MP-3.

I had a Model year 2012 vehicle that had HD radio in it. I had to pay extra for it. I understand that at the time the HD was just a module that is added to the regular audio receiver.

Here is a list of car manufacturers that are currently building cars with HD receivers.
