Nordost Odin 2

I borrowed a friends Odin cables last year. To be honest, my entire system felt "tipped up" and I didn't like it at all. It sounded like someone turned the treble up two notches. I listened for several days and decided it wasn't for me.

Mike,

Yes, cables are not an universal miraculous solution - as they say one man's meat is another man's poison. In our hobby we listen to systems in rooms, not to single components. Did you also use the power cords? There was once a famous sentence in a blog stating that the Odin signal cables improved the sound, but the Odin AC cord more improved the music.

However I have seen some systematic in the positive reports of great performances of Odin cables and my own auditions - tube equipment such as ARC, Constellation Audio and Dartzeel, avoiding bright speakers. A possible excellent match with the Sonus Faber and recent Wilson speakers, with the new tweeters. The XLF /Odin/Hercules/Metronome pairing was an unique experience - at a price!

Yes, I did use the Odin cables. Admittedly, I wasn't overly impressed, but I DID love the Valhalla 1 & 2 power cords.

Odin and Odin 2 are silver plated copper and not pure silver, let alone pure silver and gold like Siltech. Do you know how much silver is used in "silver plating"? Next to nothing.

It's all system and room dependent. Odin is not tipped up in my system at all. The amount of gold Siltech uses is minimal. It is there to fill in/smooth out the grain in the silver wire. Odin silver plating is micro polished to make it as smooth and impedance stable as possible. Odin is very expensive to make. That said, I'm sure the profit margin is huge as it is with the Siltech Royal line.

Maybe the good news will be some nice Odin-I stuff coming at big discounts after the II's hit the market. Have my eyes pealed.:amazing:

I currently use Odin. Prior to Odin, I used MIT MAX SHD with Shunyata Anaconda Zitron PCs, before that I used Kubala Sosna Elation. Odin is by far the best performer in my system. I hear absolutely nothing that would lead me to say that my system feels "tipped up". It is superbly balanced, smooth with excellent bass performance.

I wouldn't worry too much about seeing a lot of used Odin on the U.S. Market at the prices they're charging for Odin 2. The current trade up policy, at least as far as I understand it, is a complete rip off.

People should be careful - the market is filled with chinese fake Odin cables. Although we can foresee that some genuine cables will show at nice prices, all of the usual precautions for used cable deals are mandatory.

Think that goes for a few cables. I know fake Siltech have also been reported! :S

Authorized distributors moved some Valhalla 1 cables at pretty good prices after Valhalla 2 came out. The existing inventory had to be moved. My dealer is telling me to stand by for news.

I'd be surprised if there's Odin inventory out there besides the demo product dealers have. Nordost has turned any Odin product I've ordered in less than a week. I wouldn't be surprised if they're still going to offer original Odin product as well as Odin 2. There's a 40-50% difference in MSRP between Odin and Odin 2!!!! That's pretty significant. You're talking $200k plus to fill out a system. Even with a 35% discount you're talking ridiculous money.

Yes, I hear you Frank. Good points.

At this price level you have to try guys the Siltech Double Crown set. Pricey too, buy cheaper than Nordost and I bet that way way better. This is game over for cable topic. Nordost cables are just fast and clinical clear, Siltech is pure music, life-like, intimacy, three dimensional experience. Just try it.

From more faster than a locomotive to faster than the speed of light?

It must be a 5th dimension cable. This is going to revolutionise physics. :disbelief:
