Nord One Up Ncore NC500 amps, Class D ready for prime time .....

Geeze these amps are amazingly good! Back in the system after a few weeks of the REF75. The only thing the Nords give up is that last iota of airy tube sound. With the T&A DAC8 DSD being fed upsampled 512 it is goosebumps good.
 
That is so awesome to read Marty. Thank you for your thoughts. I knew these were good and with some break in, totally outstanding. Glad you are enjoying yours.

Joe I am a die hard tube fanboy and my system has zero tubes at the moment. Maybe I could stick the Nords in a huge chassis and stick some tubes out the top. :weird:

Yes the Nords with the Hattor passive and the T&A DAC8 DSD. Just glorious sounding.
I have the Sonic Imagery 994 op amps.

I totally get it and understand. I would pick a tube setup over SS any day but for practical reasons, need great sounding SS for ease of use and maintenance. The Nords are amazing and in the right setup, just perform some amazing musical feats.

Marty, could you give some details which Hattor passive are you using ? There seems to be 4 different models.

Vishay SMD
Takman REX
Takman REY
AMRG Trans

Anybody knows how their Tube preamp active stage compares with the passive ones ? Could it bring back the "iota of airy tube sound" ?

I bought the least expensive model not expecting how great it sounds.

Trust me you will not miss a single iota of anything with the Nords. Don't sweat the small stuff and enjoy the beautiful music they produce.

I had Joe's with the "old" boards for about three weeks so I know I like them. There is one in my "cart" on the site now. Just waiting until the 1st to push the button. I am going to stick with the Sparkos op amps as the tube character works with the Nola's for a summer amp. Have to admit though that the Odyssey Kismet is pretty good with them too. Damn, another ID company with reasonable prices. Something must be wrong with this picture.

I'm pretty sure shipping will not take too long. I think Colin's backlog is mostly gone. You should know soon enough.

Looking forward to your thoughts. Please just let them play and break in, the longer the better. You you will have some good days and some not so good, but in the end, you be shaking your head in disbelief.

To top this off I am getting a Khzomo passive preamp today. I have heard good things about the Hattor which looks great. Khzomo is the less expensive version but with very similar quality resistors in a more plain box. I have to have mono volume controls as I have to listen slightly off axis. Hopefully it will arrive today and do the magic. I have a Creek pot in a box but that loses a little of the dynamics and top end air but I have heard that does not happen with the better passives. Will found out today.

I am currently using a Nuforce P9 preamp which works well with the Nord amp.

I have Transparent Audio Super balanced cables (costing more than the amplifier !!) between the pre and power amps. I use a specialty mains cable to the power amps from Supra that is more sensibly priced. It is well shielded and makes the amp sound very even in frequency response. The cables to the pre from the DAC are silver and errrr.......knee trembling expensive........they are from my main Audionote system (about $8K) .

Listening to the the Neil Young Acoustic playlist from Tidal and it sounds stunning and so in the room. Will the passives make it better???

Just got a reply from Colin, he said he got a rush of orders over the weekend probably because of the weak pound. He said mine should ship out in a couple of days so I'm sure yours are going soon.
