No CD's??

AI M

The problem is that as you upgrade to higher resolution systems- the emphasis on buying top notch recordings becomes more important.

Upgrade your system and you might easily find a much loved disk suddenly becoming un-listenable ! 60% of my CD collection of 30 years, cannot be listened to on my current system.

I just want to enjoy my music but I am now forced (!!!) to use two systems - one for top notch recordings and a much more forgiving system for older recordings....

I don't have the same experience. The greater the resolution of my system becomes (and now I have very high resolution), the better almost all music/recordings become on the system. However, I listen mostly to (old and modern, incl. avantgarde) classical and jazz. With pop/rock it is more difficult.

A trick that helps is to upgrade everything in the system in an even manner. You don't want the high resolution of some components to unmask glaring weaknesses of others. Some recordings then may stress those weaknesses more than others.

I quit upgrading for resolution, all the upgrades I've done in the last few years have made CD quality content on my system much more enjoyable.

Actually since I upgraded my system I am buying much more CD/SACD music than ever before. I can clearly hear the differences in the two different formats.

Al M. Regarding your watermarking post:

Oh my...more than just interesting. Thank you for your post and useful information regarding watermarking. Im with Mr Peabody on the renaissance, I pray I am around long enough to see the fulfillment of that...Until then, it is the disk format for me...
Cheers

I will always love my CD’s/SACD’s and still listen to them, but in the last 2-3 years have switched 90% to Vinyl ......rediscovering Vinyl again has been Simply beautiful .

I think as audiophiles the CD/SACD market won’t go away. To that end, I think we will continue to see labels such as Acoustic Sounds and Mofi to release product on disc for example.

However, I think as these big box retailers abandon CDs on their store shelf we might see less and less new music for the big labels being released on CDs. Instead focusing their efforts on streaming services.
