Is it all in my head?? It seems that my stereo sounds better at night.
Of course the soundstage is better in the dark. I'm sure because my head is focused on it. But even with the lights on . It just seems to sound better when it's dark outside. Me and Bob spoke of this in the past. I'm just wondering if anyone else feels that way.
I know dumb question but I'm curious :)

Steve, you need a really good power regenerator, then it'll sound the same all the time. I know you didn't want to hear that, just do it!

Steve...that could very well be because nighttime electrical grid conditions (especially late night) are better than daytime or early evening when there is a lot of demand draw on the local utility. It could just be better incoming power. One way to test this is to insert a power conditioner in your system during the day and see if that improves resolution and staging cues, which would then tell you what you are experiencing is variability in the incoming power at different times of the day. Psychoacoustically, your explanation can also be another variable (i.e., SQ usually goes up in a darkened room because our mind is not as visually distracted and is able to better focus on the sonics you are experiencing in the dark).

Maybe because there is less power consumption in the neighborhood making your power cleaner?

I notice it also as well as how much better when it snows too because it deadens all the sounds outside.

Yea I was hoping it wasn't a power issue. I know my area is packed in the summer and very empty in the winter, so my sq is always better now than in July or August .
Internet is the same way. Slow in summer , fast in winter.
So I can see your points. I need a wind generator and some solar get off this grid!!
Thx guys!!

Depending on where you live and how soundproof your windows are, road traffic, event 'ambient outdoor' noise or noise elsewhere in the house can make a BIG difference. Ever notice at 2am in the study, you can hear the soft whir of the clock on the wall...when during the daytime it seems dead silent even if you're by yourself in the room both times? That can be just the noise floor of your road, neighbors, upstairs, etc, lowering as people are asleep.

This, plus cleaner power.

My theory on this is that since sound is simply air molecules virbrating then background noise is interfering with the music sound. This introduces a low level distortion. As background noise decreases then there is less interference with the music vibrations, which means less distortion to the music. Hence it sounds beter late at night.

Steve, you started to touch on what I was going to bring up. You need to give up those behind the dugout Yankee season tickets (how many years since they've seen the playoffs now? Cano and Granderson are gone, Rivera retired, no playoffs in sight, etc...) and buy your own wind turbine. Store the electricity in batteries and enjoy all that nice clean power. You live close enough to the ocean to see the benefits and the turbine will pay for itself in no time. A few years from now there will come a knock, knock, knock on your door from Gov. (maybe Pres.) Christie to ask if he can pay you big money to take all of your unused electricity for Atlantic City and the Jersey coast.

I know mine sounds better at night because it's just nice to sit down, unwind, and listen after a long day at work. It's all psychological on my end. :)

Mine sounds better to me at night also. I am sure it is all in my head. I can't turn off the skylights during the day and prefer to listen in a darker room. Of course right now I am watching the Rangers getting their butt kicked with the TV sound off and the stereo on so that is a distraction. Still prefer the sound quality at night even with the TV on. I have a power conditioner that is on all the time.

lmao!!!!!!
I'd have to make Cano money to be able to afford behind the dugout seats!!!!
Yanks will be beating up on your boy Verlander before ya know it!!!!!
Tigers just signed Jobba Chamberlain. Hahahahaha !!! Good luck with that:)

I think your right. It's in my head. Because it would be better during the day when everyone is at work. And it's opposite that. Maybe my mind is just busy with other things during the day.
