Newest iPad

A very rosey glasses reply. Don’t forget money makes the world spin and new gadget sales gotta keep rolling.

Oh boy - the "let's blame evil money response" when someone is explaining a term people overuse but don't fully understand. Bravo.

You can live in a world with no progress and no advances in technology because those evil companies are trying to sell products. I'll live in the current world full of progress and innovation. Thanks.

PS. By all means all those evil audio companies better stop immediately improving their products and releasing new versions of gear!!

Hit a nerve? Having a bad day? If you don’t think these companies can write software code for old hardware you are delusional. Hope you feel better.

Ummmm.....I worked in technology for 25 years. You have no idea what you are talking about in regards to hardware limitations dealing with software and as you put it - "code".

Of course they can write your "code" on old hardware. But it would be slow, limited in functionality and basically useless. Who wants to be stuck with that crap all in the name of the battle against those evil greedy companies?

You are welcome to continue using old streamers and DACs from the past that have been eclipsed by new hardware which allows improved software, sound and performance all in the name of fighting the money evil. I'll take the newer better gear, thanks.

No - no nerve hit. Just stating the facts. :)

Mr Michael let’s agree to disagree and move on. Throwing shade on fellow members is not a good look.

BTW some audio gear from the 80s and 90s stand the test of time very well. New technology has its place but not necessarily the solution for everything.

No one said it is. That gear from the 80's and 90's you refer to isn't running the code you talk about above.

How many steamers are there from the 80's? Trying to compare that technology to a simple amp or preamp from 40 years ago isn't the same things. They are completely different.

You are welcome to use 40 year old technology. I personally like innovation and moving forward.

No shade thrown - just responding to your statements.

I am not a technology expert but I really like the improved user performance and reliability of new Apple products. I keep my laptop, iPhone, and iPad up to date as I use them daily and always find them better than the last. I am smitten with the quality and user-friendly operation of the new 10th generation iPad and the streaming sound quality from it is indistinguishable from CD's played on my MCT500 CD player. For me and my system an incredible bargain for only $449.

All good points.

Plus, with the dramatic increase in the efficiency of the new hardware, it also allows for pretty big gains in the battery life and how long we can go between charges. That is primarily due to hardware changes and less to do with software changes (though they do work together. New code alone would not do that on outdated hardware.

I love being able to go longer between charges on my phone, iPad and laptop - especially when traveling.

I had already checked Best Buy this morning and the basic 9th and 10th generation are not currently on sale. Amazon does have what appears to be the 9th generation (2021) on sale for $299

Also check Costco, I think they have some on sale now.

At that price (best value tablet in the world) every member of all the families should get one. They also make the perfect gift to the people who cannot afford one. Christmas is just around the corner.

Even at full price ($329) it's a steal, almost.
Think; $330 today in a hiend stereo sound system doesn't even buy you a level or a duster for your TT.

Gen 9 now on Black Friday sale at Best Buy and Amazon. $269.99 for the basic WiFi model. I ordered a silver one. Happy, Happy birthday to me. :D

2022 iPad (10th generation) review | Macworld

Last year's iPad is a better deal, in my calculated opinion.
$270 on sale, wow, the lowest I've ever seen in the US.
I bought one (9th gen) for Mom on her birthday last September; $500 Canadian, with tax.
Everything costs more in Canada, a whole lot more. It is expensive to be a Canadian audiophile, and an Apple fan. But we're talking about Mom's birthday here; no time to be cheap. :)
