I have owned a SOTA Sapphire turntable w/Premier FT-3 arm for 39 years. While during that time, I have purchased new cartridges (my latest being a Hana SL), new phono preamps, and even a SweetVinyl SugarCube click/pop/noise reduction device, I have always kept the same turntable and arm as they seemed to work just fine. Nevertheless, about two years ago, I started to seriously upgrade my audio system to its inevitable "end game" status, and, eventually, I began the slow process of reconsidering a new turntable as well as renovating my SOTA Sapphire.

Cutting to the case, I bought a new Technics SL-1200G turntable and installed it yesterday morning. All I can say is that I had no idea how good vinyl could still sound. This new table, combined with my Hana SL cartridge, is simply terrific. Earlier this year I spent over $25,000 on a new SACD transport and DAC (not counting cabling). This new SL-1200G and Hana SL cartridge cost me just over $5,000, and the analog signal they produce gives my digital subsystem a good run for its money, particularly against "remastered" digital streaming.

I don't intend for this posting to be a criticism against digital sources; rather, I just want to state that this Technics SL-1200G turntable has been one hell of a positive addition to my audio system and is worthy of consideration (if you decide to invest in pure analog playback) for yours, too.

How is it vs your SOTA setup ..?

Hey, Hey...Thanks for that information on how good the Technics is working out. I have watched how those Technics' tables have surged in popularity the last few years. So, I may be joining you in getting one. Still not a huge fan of their aesthetics -they all look so similar. But I prefer direct drive units, and I was considering Technics or Dr. Feikert -Thanks for the insight!

Reviving an old thread..............

My son was over this past weekend and got talking turntables and the Technics SL-1300G came front and center into our discussion. I'm beginning to believe 'this' is the sweet spot in the Technics line up.

Awesome and congratulations on your new turntable setup. For years I thought I would never go back to vinyl, but as fate would have it, I now have two tables along with my digital setup. I love them both, but mainly I use digital when I want ease of use, and don't feel like getting up and flipping the record, or when Marleigh decides she want to lounge on my recliner with me. But if I want my best I will pick out a nice vinyl record!

Beautiful looking feline Randy !

No, I didn't get a new TT(still enjoying my VPI Aries 3), merely an 'analog discussion' my son and I were having. I really believe there are few, if any, TT's at it's price point that would best it and some tables above that point that would struggle as well.

Thank you. She is my baby Marleigh. Between her and our other Bengal, Loki (who is now bigger than Marleigh), it is hard to get a lot of rest around here. They are very much like little kids (if your kid could jump six feet high and run insanely fast, and turn on a dime :) )
