New Table

Like a parent's children, or Sports Illustrated swimsuit models, there is no bad turntable - long live vinyl!

I love my 3 ...spiral groove, Clearaudio, AMG. I heard the Kronos at Jeff Dorgay's house...didn't like the sound as much as his other tables. Some of my local friends are smitten with the Transrotor tables. Basis tables are outstanding too especially when paired with the Vector 4. A really good belt drive with top end power supply will sound as pitch perfect as direct drive I believe. My Innovation Wood with battery power is clear and dynamic and stable like a DD.

I'm going to built next week a special acrylic cover for the AMG
I think is the only thing that I don't like in the AMG, is not very easy to cover
But I'm in a mission
:)

You are a mean person Myles,
Now I have to go back and hate my life all over again

I have an old friend here with many Reel to a Reel players in very good condition, do you want me to get pictures and $$?

It's some new speaker and phono cables. :)

But Darrin - if you had to pick just one?

P.S. I bought a BENZ MICRO LP-S today.

Congrats on LP-S. A real treasure.

I love my children equally ;-)

Come on Darrin....come on....if you had to choose just one?

Just one I can't live without would be Goldfinger statement on its current table the spiral groove SG 1.1. If the Goldfinger was on the AMG I might change my mind. If I wanted smooth and never ever fatiguing and always musical I would choose AMG and LP-S (less spacious and resolving but more intimate and always listenable). Alan Sircom nailed the description of the Viella 12 in current Hi-Fi+ issue, both in character of sound and ease of use and other worldly build quality. Heirloom quality and easy on the eyes.

Can somebody explain to me what happened with Benz? Are they closed for ever?

They have been having problems keeping the US market supplied. If you check all the on-line dealers (MusicDirect, NeedleDr.com, Elusivedisc.com, AudioAdvisor.com, you will see all their carts are back-ordered or n/a). If you call bricks and mortar dealers they will tell you the same. The only carts still available are LP-S or Gullwing and that's if the dealers still have unsold inventory. Not sure what the story exactly is but my local dealer said the US importer has been having a very hard time with Benz and has essentially stopped dealing with them, so in effect they are without a US importer. It's a very small shop and they have just been having problems keeping up with demand I think and they have prioritized supply to other markets given problems with US importer is my guess.

I can confirm the above information regarding the lack of availability of Benz cartridges in the US. A friend recently needed to get one of their top models either rebuilt or replaced with an upgraded model for a fee as they have done in the past, and Musical Surroundings said that any service or replacement cartridges were unavailable. Instead to support their existing customer, they offered him comparable trade up value towards a new Clearaudio cartridge.

If this is all true for awhile I recommend we snap up all remaining new LP-S cartridges.

Since you already have a VPI, i would get a restored Garrard with OMA slate plinth. Add a Shick tonearm and youre set.
