Hey Bill, I don't think it really matters what cart you put on this table, as you have said, it is just so good & is truly one of those "bang for your buck" hall of famers I'm thinking. If you do decide to go with a Benz one day don't freak at the weight as they are heavy & the counter weight needs some serious "air" to balance it ;)

Bill-Congrats on your new AMG/Lyra Etna combo. I am exploring TT options for my Shindo/DeVore 0/96 setup. The AMG is above my price range, although I heard AMG is coming out with a new model. I heard it will sit below the Viella, in the $10-11K range. So far I have heard the Feickert Woodpecker/ Ortofon 9" arm. The Luxman PD171 is also on my list, and I plan to hear it soon. I wanted to mention another table that flies way under the radar, the Ayre/Bauer DPS. I'm not sure why, but it appears this table hasn't caught on. Art's review was quite positive, so this table my attention. Anyway, I have followed this thread with interest, and just wanted to mention the Bauer table.

Hi Don, The AMG is above my pay grade, too! I've been hoarding for a couple of years. I believe the new AMG table has been announced and in the range you mentioned. it comes with their new 9 inch arm. Now I just need to start a fund for the D'Yquem like you have!

I would guess the the new affordable AMG, the Giro will be stupid good for the money as the tonearm is basically the exact same design and execution, just 3" shorter. Therefore, more tracking distortion but less issues with inertia, and hey the Continuum doesn't seem to have any issues using a 9 inch arm. The table itself (both the Viella and Giro) is about simplicity and precision with the tonearm being the big innovation.

Analog is all about choosing the right balance of compromises. The AMG products are special because they made very clever decisions along the design path. The result is super sound for the $$$.

YES, I'm planning on becoming a dealer!!!

I have been fascinated with this product since it's introduction. Maybe now the time is right to start selling these babies in Canada, more precisely Ontario Canada.

Thanks guys. Bill- The AMG looks sweet! Isn't there some similarities design wise, between the Brinkman and AMG tonearms?
I understand there was an affiliation. I wanna say the gentleman who started AMG may have worked with Brinkman. Cheers -Don

Brinkmann turntable parts were sourced from an outside entity who are known as AMG. AMG/Analog Manufaktur Germany decided to make their own turntables & ever since there has been bad blood between the two with a law suit eventuating between them. Not sure if the outcome of said law suit has been reached yet.

As far as similarities between the AMG and Brinkmann products, my understanding is that the AMG tonearm bearing design is unique but that there is quite a bit of commonality in the table's platter and bearing designs.

The AMG looks great Bill!

So good in fact, that you are forgiven for the TV between the speakers. (-:
Maybe it worked out for the better with the Etna. It sounds like a nice match with your SUT too.
Bill, are you using a standard or Homage SUT, and which model?

Thanks for the info on the Brinkman/AMG. Cheers -Don

Congrats on the AMG v12. BTW I have the HRS stand under mine too. They told me to center the table on it (versus diagonal like in your pix)

I'll call HRS and ask if it makes a difference. The angle keeps the ergonomics a little more like I'm used to. Thanks

HRS are typically tuned/balanced for the component. Important to orientate correctly as the point load would have been engineered into the platform.

I have a HRS platform under a MT10. It's specification is for the MT10 and nothing else.

Very nice setup BTW. :)

I use an hrs under my AMG as well and have my table angled as well.
While it is correct that hrs can customize a m3x platform for a specific component (and label it), in reality, this is accomplished by matching different rated loading feet to the correct location on the m3 that will receive the appropriate weight from the component. In the case of the amg, the hrs is set up with two green loaded feet on the left and two red loaded feet on the right. Checking this orientation now will be a pain but there is a simpler way to do this. If you push down on the shelf with your hand, with the component on top, and there is no travel (elastomer has bottomed out) then the footer loading range is not suitable and should be replaced.

Bill, I want to say congrats on a world class TT :congrats:

I hope you enjoy it for many years.

Thank you Mark!

I checked with HRS and they did, in fact, say it was best to orient the table East/West. There is still plenty of travel pushing down on the base. I think I'll keep it at an angle for a while. I don't have the hearing or patience to see if I can hear a difference in the two positions! Plus, I ordered a dust cover for it, and I'm not sure it will sit on the platform if the table is East/West.

My room is not big and is on the second floor. The Linn LP12 acted like a trampoline with footsteps. It could not be snuck up on it without bouncing the needle and required a wall mount. The AMG has no issue with footfalls, thank goodness. I'm glad to have it on the main stand. The cueing is much easier than the Linn Ekos SE since the AMG arm mounted on a stable part of the table.

Initial thoughts on the Etna are that I get slighty less surface noise than I did with the Dynavector 20X2L/Linn combo. Its much more forceful in the mid and vocals, but only has a couple of hours on it. It seems it needs a different SUT than the Dynavector, so I have some research to do once its broken in. So far, I love it!

Would love to know more about the dustcover you've chosen. I'd like one but don't know anything about aftermarket plexi covers. Where have you sourced yours?

The Brinkmann Bardo with Origin Live tonearm is like 10k. I couldn't afford the AMG either :( I'll be honest though, I probably will never upgrade- I love staring at it too much!
