new speakers, with Humbolt

Hi, thanks all for the welcomed advice, maybe i am just after something, i just can't afford, or maybe need, i will be checking out your recommendations, and will get back to you, the Humboldt has only tripped out once and it was loud over 96db i think, crazy,

I think the problem is, when i sold my Spectral 360 mk 2 mono's and 30 ss mk 2 pre, which are about 10 years old, and bought the humboldt, i was expecting a HUGE improvement in sound quality, yes the humboldt is more organic, more realistic, but the jump was nowhere near what i was expecting, and i think this has clouded my judgement, i'm not sorry i sold the spectral, but just expected more,
not the first or last to say that, i think,
maybe i should be looking at cables also,

What power cord are you using with the Humboldt?

thx for the report!
how do you change input voltage?
Sorry, I wasn't very clear- I changed the output voltage from the DAC.
Then, when the May arrived, I had a much higher output voltage from it (which is good cos it's not adjustable).
Now the system really sings- no distortion, NONE of the ugly sibilance that we all hate about digital, just natural flowing music.
No exaggeration, when I got to the end of "Solsbury Hill" the other night, Gabriel's grunting / yelling sounds from just in front of me to the left of the carpet scared the crap out of me. A real "he is here in the room" experience.

Dang, I'm disappointed. I get all excited about someone going through all of the thoughts, emotions and money to buy new speakers and it turns into a cable thread. What a let down....lol.

Andy, my first impression is the Humboldt/ DB9-S pairing is immaculate.

After a couple of days burning-in, I can really recommend this combo. Spatial cues in Dark Side of the Moon are surreal, and the bass is just sooo yummy.

Don't worry sterogeek, it will be speakers, but i only have about £10,000, in my sasha 1s, and max £14,000, cash, i really don't want to spend anymore, i have it , just can't justify spending it, i could spend more if i got a mint pair of DAW's but not in black, my sashas are Mercedes grey and look great, don't think i will ever buy a pair of black speakers again,, but never say never,
Also as we are out of the common market, every thing imported has a huge tax vat and import duty on it, so i will have to buy a sourced pair from england, maybe Klipsch LaScala AL5 , wow, and well in budget, heard a pair years ago, they were great,

That's great, Kuoppis!
What kinda price are you paying over there for the DB9-S?
It's gotten CRAZY expensive here in Australia- $60 000 bucks!

I've wondered a few times how the Humboldt would sound on highly efficient speakers- it might end up the best of all worlds- LOTS of power, and none of the leanness or fizz some might associate with solid state. You may have stumbled onto something great :)

Wilson to Klipsch, I wouldn't think so. If you want horns look at Volti, Sadurni or JBL. Klipsch can be fun but IMO lack the refinement of those mentioned. And, a step backward from where you are now.

That’s actually surprisingly close to EU pricing. I would have thought taxes and shipping would create a higher mark-up.

I agree, speakers with a higher sensitivity tend to sound great also with very powerful amps.

The Double Niners are 89 db, so the Humboldt has way more power on tap than is required to drive them. And it sounds great [emoji3].
