KEF kicked to the Kurb...how alliterative.

Congrats. They must be real fine to klobber the KEFs.

Well I don't know if I would say clobbered the KEF's... would say more refined, extremely accurate, incredible imagining, especially in placement within the sound field. A lot more air around the instruments, but all in the subtleties, not knock your socks off.... but a very refined hand made German speaker for sure! Definitely a step up!!!

See..none of that description started with a K...which I needed for alliterative purposes. Ha.
Enjoy

What......no turntable ????? only kidding Randy, all looks superb !

I'm curious, does the opening behind help by adding more depth to your soundstage ?

I do not know if the loft opening helps or hinders that??? I do know the MC have a deeper sound stage and a more defined image. I always thought that the reflection off the walls behind the speakers were important to a ported speaker....

Randy. Did you try the LS50 on another speaker stands ?

I can understand you preferred the new speakers sounds but way I see this pic I bet the LS50 sounds would better with higher stands too.

The LS50's are a really good speaker and I like them a lot. The MC are a whole other league. I have not heard the KEF Reference 1's (I have heard the Ref 3's). When I mentioned to him that eventually I wanted to get Ref 1's. He said borrow Wolfgang's MC speakers and you will probably not have any desire to go to the Ref's. By the way, has has listened to Ref's a lot, so he is very familiar with them.

The more I listen to them the more I have got to agree. The smoothness and accuracy is startling, the imagining is spectacular. They have the MBL sound characteristics for sure. One of our club members has a full MBL system (absolutely outstanding), and a set of their big boy speakers. No these do not have that anywhere you go in the room they sound exactly the same as his do, but the general sound family is 100% there. Of course his whole system is much more refined (it better be for the $200k + he spent on it). But the family resemblance is there and they are very solid speakers.

Yes, the KEF would be improved slightly by being higher, but not to this level. By the way, these are stands which retail north of $600-$700. Because they match the speaker so much he is giving them to me with the speakers! How could I say no; the speakers are very solid and quite heavy. The stands are quite a bit heavier.

Some updated photos.... my little system is no where's near most in this forum, but it is getting there....

You've come a long way Randy. Well done! Even the cat matches the decor. Nice!

:) Thank you my friend. I am liking how it is all coming together. Way too much power though (430 WPC, good God, I have the DAC and the Marantz set to like -20 db output so that I can have some low level control on the pre-amp).... I will eventually change out the amplifier, maybe the Statement when it comes out or a tube... I am just a little hesitant about the up keep of tubes... And I keep getting this vinyl itch that is driving me crazy... so I might end up having to pick up a turntable even though I do not have any albums...

Randy,

Watching you grow your system is inspiring me. It looks like you have settled in on all Marantz!

Thanks,
Mack

I really like the Marantz spinner. It is my only Marantz piece, but it is nice. The rest of the equipment is Wyred 4 Sound.

I have been considering their nice turntable (built by clearaudio), but not sure I want to get back into vinyl enough to spend about $2200... figuring the table $1499, phone pre-amp, probably a Vincent that got TAS Editor's Choice that can now be had for $299, and a protection cover ($329... :()... so a little over $2100 :(....

I think I would probably rather put that couple grand into a step up amplifier at this point...

All pieces appear to be finally in place.... here are a few updated photos as to what the the system has evolved to...

My power conditioner is plugged into the wall. All components are plugged into the conditioner... So my answer is I do not know but I assume so.
