Very impressive. But, how does the Oppo announcement effect the future of MSB transports?
It is my understanding that no only is the Oppo transport itself used but, some of the Oppo 203 electronics as well for these new MSB transports.
Mike,
As a dealer of both, how does MSB compare to Esoteric spinners? I had an incomplete version of the Ref transport in house for a few days but it did not have the aluminum tray and I imagine the finished product is significantly better than what I heard not that it was bad at all. I did prefer the K-01X into the MSB Ref dac as opposed to the incomplete Ref transport.

Hello
Looking for a SACD and CD transport, I am hesitating between the MSB transport and Esoteric Grandioso K1.
Did anyone compare those two products as a pure CD transport ( using AES output )?
The player will be connected to my Trinnov through AES.
Also regarding the MSB transport is the powerbase a "must" or the cherry on the cake ?
Thanks
Alex
PS : I know those two products can do much more than pure CD transport but let's put this aside for the time being.

Hello MikeThe MSB is a true transport offering CD/SACD via ProISL to a MSB DAC or a variety of other digital output connections to another non-MSB DAC. The Esoteric is a CD player which can also be used as a transport only via BNC or SPDIF or AES. Note, I do not believe the SACD will transmit over those connections on the Esoteric. I am probably the only person who has compared both. I found the ProISL connection to be preferred, thus giving the nod to the MSB. If using one of the other connections, I think one would be hard pressed to tell a major difference.
For the MSB, the power base does make a sonic difference, but it is not necessary as the transport does come with a wall wart.
I'm struggling to comprehend the place of a SACD/CD transport considering where streaming technology has evolved to.
