New Magico speakers arriving 04/2015!

Wow, that is quite a list of goodies and fully lustworthy to a happy S5 owner like me.
+ 1. I think i've found my next pair of speakers ;). I suspected Magico might develop an outsourced version of the M Pro's diamond-coated beryllium tweeter. What surprised me was the S7 will inherit the M Pro's 6" graphene midrange & updated 10" bass drivers! :celebrate008_2:

This was posted on another (AA) forum. I guess it is still in rumor category. I like how the maximum power rating has been lowered. :)

"Info from the Grapevine:

Frequency Response: 20 Hz – 50 KHz
Recommended Power: 50-1000 Watts
Dimensions: 56” (142cm) H x 20” (48cm) D x 25” (63cm) W

You really should get off the power rating specs. This has nothing to do with blowing up speakers. You could have done just as much, and maybe more, damage clipping a 10 watter. Try to run an open preamp into any amp, on any speakers, and see what happen.

Thanks, Bodhi.

Given the dimensions of the improved tweeter (1 inch) and midrange (6 inch), it looks like upgrades to the existing Q and S series models that share the same sized drivers may be a possibility.

Of course, it would be easier to do so for the S series with their externally affixed drivers than for the Q series (which may have to be factory installed - shipping costs would be a killer for non-US owners).

Except for this bit:

The midrange driver (6-inch) in the S7 brings a new benchmark of measured performance to Magico. The cone material is formulated using Arkema Multi-Wall carbon nanotube and XG Sciences C-750 Nanographene which combined is 20% lighter and 300% stiffer than previous cone material designs. The underhung neodymium base motor system uses two extra-large magnets which provide an ultra-stabilized magnetic field for the pure titanium voice coil to operate within. The driver operates in a purpose built sub-enclosure made of a proprietary polymer material that was first introduced in the S3.

While the S3 has the new shape polymer midrange sub-enclosure, the S5 has a traditional sub-enclosure. But both the S3 and the S5 share the same 6" M380 midrange driver. It would appear that Magico can design the same driver to work with or without the new shape polymer midrange sub-enclosure. Whether they can engineer the new shape polymer sub-enclosure for the S5 (into a possible S5 Mk II) might be another matter. One can always hope :)

Probably not until the S5 MKII is announced. The S7 is lustworthy but it's also big, heavy, and relatively expensive. An S5 MKII might be just what the doctor ordered for quite a few Magico owners.
After reading Bud's update, it's pretty clear the S7's will be out of my reach. I also reflected on the fact the S5's are the biggest S series speakers I could fit in my room (without looking out of place). An S5 Mk2 with updated drivers, x-over & outriggers might just be the sweet spot in Magico's range & likely good enough to call my 'retirement speakers'.

Hopefully Magico will continue to update the popular S series before moving onto the Q series :skeptical:. Fingers crossed! :peace:

25" wide? that's huge.

I believe that is the foot print, that includes the outriggers

Its a bit hard to tell since the S7 was photographed from an angle but the baffle appears to be wider by about 2 - 3" on both sides of the 10" woofer. So, taking into account the fact that the curved sides (at their widest) extend out by 3" or thereabouts, a width of 25" may not be unlikely. Similarly, the S5's baffle is only as wide as the 10" woofer but is specified as 15" wide due to the curved sides.

Even then, the front baffle is rather wide. Wonder if diffraction might be an issue.

Guess I was wrong about the woofers, but congrats to you Magico fanboys.

They just gave you the poor man's M-PRO.

To the contrary, the wider the better. Diffractions happen in corners. Ideally, a speaker will have an infinite baffle

The specs are really sublime!
