For me yes I was running a Jay's audio CDT-2Mk2 transport into the M Scaler and then via Dave, for me and quite a few friends the D-10X has the edge, just sounds more natural, the ROHM dac chip in the luxman is something spectacular

Deano1974 did you ever compare it to any of the new Esoteric offerings such as the K-03XD or more expensive K-01XD?

Hi Jet

Didn't compare it to any Esoteric sorry, a friend has the flagship accuphase and we both agreed the luxman sounded more natural the accuphase was slightly darker

But that's just our opinion

Cheers

I don't like the Accuphase CD player.
No life...
I can't say nothing about the Luxman...

Hello all,

I've been running the PS Audio DAC and transport for years and have recently even acquired their new SACD transport. It all sounds wonderful but I've always been partial to Luxman and am wondering if the time has come to make a change, if even just for change's sake. I don't suppose anyone out there can comment on how the PS Audio separates might compare to the D-10X?

I owned both the PS Audio DAC and SACD/CD player and the Luxman D-08u. In my system, to my ears, the Luxman beat the PS Audio hands down, on both red book CDs and SACDs.

Absolutely, Chord Dave and M Scaler best the ps audio and the D-10X easily beats the Chord configuration

I haven't heard any cd player that can beat the D-10X it's so natural

Now on my second D-10X. First one did not play at all and made high pitched squealing sound. I believe it was a faulty MQA board.
This one sometimes will not play Single layer SACD's that my Esoteric will. Not all the time but regularly enough to make me send it back.
So bloody disappointed.

What were the manufacture dates of the players you had?

I have one of these on order and that would be disappointing

I feel for you! 3 out of my last 4 ~$7K SACD players were defective! (Musical Fidelity Tri-Vista, Ayre, Marantz SA-10.) Letting defective units ship should be unacceptable for a $2K player, much less a $7K or especially an $18K player. And for it to happen twice in a row? That's just irresponsible. I have been lusting after a D-10X, although it's really out of my current price range. Now I feel a tad less envy! Good luck!

If the timing works out, I plan a shoot out between my SA-10 and the D-10x.

I expect the Marantz to fare quite well in a comparison. I would still buy the SA-10 again. I'm just changing it up for the heck of it and I have some of the MQA cds that the Luxman will be convenient to spin them on as opposed to ripping and playing on my Lumin. I hope the Luxman is outstanding and I haven't read about anyone else experiencing problems with the player but 2 in a row is certainly a red flag if it can be attributed to defective players

Wow that's disappointing, 2 units have failed on you, my D-10X hasn't missed a beat, perfect operation evertime

Are you in communication with Luxman America? They should be all over this! Two defective Luxman units in a row to the same person has to be quite an anomaly.

Yes we are in contact with them and the seller. They are scratching their heads over this. Unfortunately there is also a question over the age of the unit and I am still awaiting word on the changes made between Rev 1 and Rev 2 machines. My original was a Rev 2 but the replacement is a Rev 1. It is hugely disappointing especially given the fact that it sounds so good when it works and I had this pegged as my DAC for discs and streaming via a Lumin U1. I will see what they come back with as an explanation and solution. They are all being very helpful so I know there will be a positive outcome eventually. Just might not entail a 10X sitting in my rack :S

BTW...this is in no means a slam on Luxman, my retailer or the player for that matter. Shit happens and these issues can be multi faceted. So I will see what they come back with and take it from there. Luxman are still tops for me.

mauideejay....Sorry to hear about your misfortune with your two D-10X units. Hope it gets sorted out quickly. What do you mean by Rev 1 & Rev 2? I was not aware of any version changes or updates. What is the difference between 1 & 2? What manufacture dates were your two units? When did the change from Rev 1 to Rev 2 take place?

It is not uncommon for Dealers and Manufacturers to keep issues like this under wraps. I have been openly asked not to disclose or post my experience by 2 Dealers and 1 Manufacturer.
