New Lumin X2

I won't assume that this is an improvement until I actually hear it. My Lumin T3 sound quality has been dependent on the Lumin app, and the app has been wonky since the middle of this year. I'll never spend that amount of coin if this new DAC can't obtain its best sound quality without the use of the Lumin app.

The X1 has been a great performer; I owned one for a few years. Looks like the X2 has a number of improvements which is great to see. Wish they would have added digital inputs in addition to Ethernet.

Lumin has always provided great support. Hope this is a great seller for them.

My (Very experienced) local distributer is blown away by the sound of this new monster!
He claims it will definitely compete with all the big boys out there.

What an amazing company Lumin is!🤘👊

Although I know it is not much meaningful for me to say this given my affiliation:
Yes, X2 offers the highest class of sound quality from streaming players / DAC, at a comparatively lower price. We have a higher priced DAC from another manufacturer, so we did actual comparisons, not empty talk.

Comment from Perfect Sense, our Sweden distributor (link):
The X2 has been playing here for a couple of weeks now where I would consider it properly burnt in.

The improvements are quite significant - which was expected based on the time that’s passed since the introduction of the X1 about 7 years ago now. There has been rather major developments since then on the streaming side which has already been incorporated in the U2 and U2x models recently. These are now all combined with the brand new and discrete DAC architecture developed by Lumin for the X2.

What I hear and experience is greater resolution and transparency combined with an improved sense of dynamic attack and precision. It’s an objectively superior level of performance which bring me closer to the music and what’s happening in the mix or on stage in a very convincing way.

I’m sure that the X2 will rival much more costly stand alone players and DAC’s as did the X1 before it.

At Roon forum an X2 user shared his first impressions after 200 hours:
I received X2 on 31/12/2025. My initial impression after powering it was that yes it is something different even though in same outer design. I immediately noticed that the music was more organic, having multi layered wide and deep sound stage, no sound glare, but I decided that I will write after doing burn in. So from 31/12/2025 to till date it is continuously playing music. When I am not at home I switch off my active monitors. I noticed that during last eight days approx 200 hours, the sound signature changed a lot and now it is more organic, wider- deeper- multi layers soundstage .

In one line if you tell me to summarize, I can say that "forget which system is playing you will flow with music and when it will stop playing you will realize that you were listening Lumin X2" like magic. Its sound has emotional attachment. I am totally satisfied with the purchase of Lumin X2.

At times I think this forum is way above my pay grade. not that I can't afford the gear, but I can't imagine spending that kind of cash. What would be the % of audible difference between 3 figure modern dac and a 5 figure one? I'm not being rude intentionally, I'm currently shopping for a dac and am truly curious if I'd be spending say $5000 for every 1 percent? I'f so that would help my perspective.

The difference is profound between a $5k to say a $15k DAC. One sounds like a computer, the other sounds like music. But hey, just keep listening. I have found the Aqua LaScala DAC under $10k as that one exception to the rule.
