Here's something you don't read much about: a price drop!

Lumin S1 (silver or black): $9800 MSRP (previously $12,500).

Great for new purchasers - not so good for existing customers.

Good for Lumin. Any other price reductions on their other gear?

I have been waiting for the successor of the S1 to come out. Can this be a clue? 

Since the S1 uses the ES9018 DAC which was discontinued by ESS and replaced with the ES9038Pro, Lumin will probably switch to the new chip as well.

That's my guess Bud, but they say "nothing new for another year." Hmmm....

Brilliant. I was wondering about that.

Hi Mike,
Do you hear any news on lumin being roonready?
I really wanted this feature when I got my U1 since my library is huge.

Thx Mike! Good for those that have been on the sidelines considering an S1. Which, by the way, it's an awesome player.

I'm surprised that there is no further messaging on this. A price reduction of the S1 without new product announcements or plans does not make sense. A price reduction with no additional product messaging is strange and does not help the brand - any brand!

That's a hefty price decrease (21.6%), you don't see one of that magnitude too often. But there is a lot of price competition out there in the DAC/network player market and I suspect Lumin did it to boost sales. The customer is certainly benefiting from all this competition.

Although I cannot give a precise time frame, I can say that indeed there is no new Lumin model coming up very soon. If anyone is hoping to see a successor to S1 soon, they're going to be disappointed.

I don't know if certain chips are discontinued or not. Even if it were true, manufacturers must have a certain amount of inventory of their components. Unlike consumer grade equipment, by comparison audiophile equipment is generally not a high-volume business, it may take considerable time to use up one's inventory...

Does anyone know if there is a software pkg that will run on a NAS ( Synology)
that will work with the S1 that is NOT minimserver.
I've looked but not been able to find any.

Yes this is what Lumïn recommends. I use a Synology 1515+ with Minim. Why don't you want to use MinimServer?

In addition to Lumin L1, the official recommended music server for use with Lumin is MinimServer. If you really don't want to use it, you can try the Synology built-in media server.

Thanks - no don't really want to use minimserver - I think it's a PITA to set up / work with.
I'm familiar with the Synology media server. Just wondering if someone has actual experience with it or an alternative - just to save a step of "trial and error".

The L1 is the simplest solution. Plug and play. Daisy chain if needed.

Hey Peter - now that there is a 4TB drive available (https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-Mome...8&qid=1469625878&sr=8-1&keywords=4TB+2.5+inch) - what about a 4TB L1?
