I tend to hear what others are hearing when we listen together.

I am not sure if this is something that applies only to me, but I suspect not. *Every time I think “it must be only me” I discover I am anything but alone. *If I am listening by myself I hear whatever is presented to me in the music and enjoy it on different levels depending on my mood for the day. *But if someone else joins me, I seem to change my viewpoint and hear it as if through their ears rather than mine. *As I write these words it sounds funny, hard to explain.

Just the other day a few friends were over and the system was sounding fine to me and within a few minutes I could tell they were focusing on the lack of high frequency extremes the system presents. *I am certainly aware of this deficiency, which has to do with our new power amplifier, but I rarely pay attention to it until someone else comes in the room that focuses on it. *It’s weird, I don’t know how or why that is, but I seem to be able to tell what it is they’re hearing and then I can’t hear anything BUT that problem.

10 minutes later, if someone else comes into the listening room and is not aware of one deficiency or another, then neither am I.

Have you experienced something similar?
