New Cary Preamp on the Way

Gotcha. You would think they would use the word XLR instead of balanced then. I have been around this for a long time and I did not know that. I just assumed if it had XLR it was balanced. I feel like a goof ball for not knowing that.
lol, i also thought that if it had xlr inputs and outputs it was fully balanced. guess i was wrong too. in my experience anyway(just amps and pres and phono pres ive owned) all tube setups seem to sound better with rca's. i ran xlrs with all my BAT gear but that was because i had no choice. but i just always thought it to be more for solid state. or running a tube pre with a ss amp. but what do i know, cause i never owned a ss amp or pre.

Four of my audio friends have Pass Labs amps (X150.5 and x250) and the original purchaser was telling us about the fully balanced topology circuit developed by Nelson Pass. When we started looking for preamps, he reminded us to look for a fully balanced circuit and not just XLR connections. Three out of the five of us have gone that route and the other two are still using their original preamps for the time being.

does it make a big difference? if i had a high powered amp like that i would definitely go balanced, just because i was told im supposed to. my friend runs a pass amp the model i dont know. but he swears by it and the BAT vk52 he runs with it. oh btw i thought that was a balanced audio town you live in, no carys allowed.lol!!!!

Steve, I went down to BAT and talked to them in the hopes that they had some kind of loaner program. They had an employee store with up to 60% off on some gear, mostly "B" stock, but nothing I could afford without being an employee.
