I finally did it - I stopped working and I started a blog about preparing for and entering retirement. I hope to explore all those wonderful topics like approaching that threshold, preparing financially, exploring relocation, keeping busy, buying or selling a house, dealing with family, etc.

Please visit the site and leave your comments and suggestions. I would love to hear about topics that interest you, or corrections and additions to my posts, especially from those of you already in retirement.

The Retirement Diary » The transformation from work to retirement, relocation, and how we got here

There's a place on the right margin where you can sign up to receive automatic e-mail updates when I post a new article.

Enjoy,
Bob

Bob.......Congratulations on your retirement. I am positive you earned it. One of the greatest thing is having complete ownership of your time. It is a wonderful thing.

I retired at age 60. That was 8 years ago this month. My two business partners both told me I would be bored silly and would be back in the business in less than two years. Not a chance. From the very first Monday in September, 2007 that I no longer went into the office until this very day today I have never experienced boredom. I enjoy every every day knowing I am free to do as I please. I no longer get out of bed at 4:00 AM five days a week. Heck, sometimes I don't go to bed until 4:00 AM now. I sleep late, involve myself in my hobbies, travel with my lady and by myself, and often find happiness doing absolutely nothing. Half the time I wouldn't know what day it is if it weren't for the day and date in the corner of my computer screen. I have heard others who said retirement isn't what its cracked up to be but for me that is not the case. I don't miss the work, the responsibility, the stress, the constant long distance travel. I don't even miss my two partners in business. I am in a completely different place now and love every minute of every day. I wish you the same happiness.

Thanks for all your support guys. I have a variety of topics I plan to cover in time:

- a lot of financial stuff, since I worked on Wall St for 35 years this part is easy to write about for me
- relocation is heavily on our mind right now, so I will be covering that as we explore our options
- lots of advice as I find it and talk to others already in retirement
- buying and selling a house, an expansion on the relocation as we attempt to actually do this
- keeping busy
- keeping a budget
- social security
- medical and insurance issues
- diary posts, of our adventures, thoughts and whimsical things during our journey

Keep the suggestions coming, even though I have a lot written already I will always need topics, thoughts and suggestions for the future

I'm glad you all subscribed. Makes me feel like this is worthwhile.

Bob
