Nelson Pass...........

Greetings.

Hello Mr. Pass..I just read this
Nelson Pass (born June 27, 1951) is a noted and widely respected designer of audio amplifiers[citation needed].

Unlike some audio engineers, Pass remains vocal that listening tests remain valuable and that electrical measurements alone do not fully characterize the sound of an amplifier

I could NOT agree more !!! Hear Hear ...(lol)

Glad you are with us !

Nelson... I have always heard bigger is better!!!

Now you're talking Jeff !!!

Sorry ...it was from Wikipedia....

Mofre important "listening tests remain valuable"...amen

By the way, like the HAL avatar....

I am not much of an authority...BUT, I will go on record as saying you are a "respected designer of audio amplifiers" :) In fact, some of the best I've heard. Don't think that'll hold any sway in Court but who gives a :D...

Welcome Nelson, As an XP 10 owner, I'm wondering what kind of improvements I would hear going to the XP 30 ?

Your descriptions would be much appreciated !!

Nelson Pass writes well too! The various presentations and papers available online are fun and accessible reads, even to non-engineers like myself. As a result I'm going to embark on building his B1 passive preamp for my Spectron amp. I'll post to the DIY thread on AS if I have anything worthwhile to share about the experience.

If you're looking to go all out, try Claritycap MR for the 1uf and 10uf coupling caps and a stepped attenuator for volume control.

Thanks for the tip. For the initial build I bought sonicap and will probably bypass with their gen2, and I am going with Texas components 330R resistors in place of the 1k, after reading the pass DIY forum. We'll see how it goes! Passive preamps intrigue me, the niteshade I have now should be a mismatch with my amp but it sounds good, so the B1, which is a better match on paper, may sound even better! But let's face it the fun is in the building...

Kind of goes without saying due to the price difference...but, the Xs150s are in a different galaxy from the 160.5s. Lots of good amps out there but love what Pass does.
