Need new speakers under $5000, considering Triton1s, Usher diamond Mini Dancer 2s, Chapman T-5s

So, no Usher or Chapman experience?

Heard the Chapman's at RMAF last year and it was one of my favorite rooms at the show. I thought they were excellent for the money. They are high value speakers IMO.

Jaxwired, That was my impression, an old Odyssey amp on the floor, some Target bath mats on the walls, laptop feeding a Hegel DAC, and the T-5s sounded fantastic, great bass, beautiful vocals, and freewheeling dynamic aliveness. Chapman has showed at RMAF using Wells and other expensive gear and they wanted to make a point at 2014 RMAF, it's the speakers not the electronics and cables, job accomplished!

Any interest in Ryan Speakers ?

Paul, I heard them at the show and told the brothers they had a very good sounding room. Very well made and reasonably priced, but I didn't have enough time to really get a feel for what they could do at the frequency extremes or soundstaging.

Mark Jones carries the line and he loves it and Mike as well. Hopefully they can chime in regards to the Ryan Speakers. :)

I thought the Ryan speakers were excellent, dynamic and clean and gave them my best value of show. They were paired with an all Auralic system and it sounded great. IMO, they bettered many speakers costing 2-3 times as much.

Yep, your impression matches mine and they told me the same thing about wanting to show the speakers with modest electronics.

Re: Need new speakers under $5000, considering Triton1s, Usher diamond Mini Dance...

I demoed the first Tritons (3 years ago). From what I remember vocals were exceptional! Sandy did a good job with those ribbon tweeters. The thing about the Tritons though is that you have to allow a while longer for your ears to adjust. At first they can sound harsh, but they smooth out nicely after 15 to 20 minutes, that was the model I tried. I don't know about the latest models though, things may have changed for the better still. I also got to chat with Sandy, nice guy. I almost bought them, but found them not to my use ultimately.

You may also want to look at Paradigm Studios.
Just putting them on the table for consideration. Nothing more and nothing less.

PSB Synchrony One's are the best $5K speakers that I have heard. Awesome bass and imaging. They lean every so slightly on the warm side of neutral. Excellent treble with no fatigue. They present a very good sound stage. They may be hard to find as a new model had just come out that according to Paul Barton of PSB is supposed to give better detail.

I was pretty impressed with Proac D28s and others in their lineup.

PSB Synchrony Ones were on my radar, but the design's age and a replacement coming deterred me. I haven't heard ProAc speakers in a decade, thanks for the reminder of how good they are. Triton 1s still in the lead, followed closely by Chapman T-5s. I wish the 3 way Ushers were lower in price.

If the planars didn't deliver the soundstage and depth you were seeking, you might not want to give up that quest. You may wish to consider other speakers which provide ambience cues and venue information similar to what a dipole can do. If you have the opportunity to attend the AXPONA show here in Chicago next month there should be viable choices to audition. For example we'll be there showing the AudioKinesis Zephrin 46 loudspeakers, and designer Duke LeJeune will be present and happy to answer your questions.

Basically you know what you like when you hear it so given what you like I would simply add some others you might like if you come across them. Soundstage is largely a matter of the recording - and or the positioning of the loudspeakers. Be careful because a lot of speakers have a stamped on signature - depth of soundstage can simple be frequency response related issue - so you say - wow X instrument is pushed back - cool I am getting depth of soundstage until 100 albums later that stage seems to be the same across every recording in the collection. I personally prefer speakers that present a massive variety of staging depending on the recording and I agree with you on Magnepan.

Gallo 3.5 can hit very hard with pin drop speed. There are bigger Gallos but they cost significantly more. Personally I find most of the speakers that hit hard give up some qualities elsewhere - like cohesiveness, eloquence etc. But if it's loud rock - the Gallo kicks hard for $5k.

Richard, The Gallo 3.1s and 3.5s appear to be only available used? I guess Anthony is developing his next breakthrough? Thanks to everyone for their posts, my Triton 1s are due to arrive Monday.

Big fan of the Dynaudio Focus series, they cross over 5K when you get floor standing, but they can sound as good as the upstream components can feed them..

For that budget, based on the attributes you're wanting, I would definitely look 2nd hand for the best bang for your buck. Right now on the 'Gon, there is a pair of Genesis 350 speakers which have been upgraded with the later German Bohlender-Graebene planar transducers. The tweeters also appear to have been upgraded to 350SE spec. The Dealer is asking $5200.00 which is a screaming bargain imho if you can fit them in your room. Note: Gary Koh from Genesis has a strong commitment to supporting legacy models, including the 350. You could also look for a good 2nd hand pair of Infinity IRS Sigma's from a genuine owner which haven't been stuffed around with if you don't have the room for the 350's.
