Hi Peter -

I’m in the process of buying a Synology DS920+ NAS to store my music. Unfortunately, I’ve hit the limits with my Lumin L1. Are there any device configurations you recommend?

I’m going to purchase 4 12TB storage drives. Yes, lots of storage.

I assume Minimserver is needed.

Please advise.

Thx!
Mike

Gads. 4 12TB drives. That's a lot of music. I have used 600MB on a 1TB drive, and that is more music than I can listen to the rest of my life.

I have 4 x 8 and 256 SSD for caching. WIth Raid there’s not so much room left. The DSD files occupy one pair and the rest is on the other pair.

I have maybe 12 TB of content on the NAS altogether.

Only 600mb of music [emoji44]
I wish I only I had that amount (there again I'm glad I haven't as I would not have come across all the great music I have over the years), as it would make things a little easier.
Recently filled up a 2TB hard drive and have just purchased a 4TB.
Perhaps I should have got 8TB [emoji846]

Did you ever try Jumboframes on your NAS? My Lumin U1 mini and my QNAP-453DX run with Jumboframes.

What are Jumbo Frames and How Do You Use Them?

You only have to change on your NAS the MTU from 1500 to 9000. If it works good. If not then you can change back to 1500.

And it is for free.

Unless you're very familiar with network configuration of *all* devices on the network, Jumbo Frame should be disabled. Enabling Jumbo Frame is a common but hard to diagnose cause for Roon failure.
