My new baby..

I agree...both those set-ups, are dynamite; though I really like my X-300As, in my Office rig. I just can't believe, speakers of that quality...Harbeth P3s, and especially the Joseph Pulsars; work well, in such near-field listening?

I wouldn't say that the nearfield environment is ideal for the Pulsars , I notice the dispersion pattern sounds much better if I sit back 3-4 feet from the setup. Having said that , a few things helped . Elevating the speakers atop the amps, the Ardan speaker stands for isolation from desk surface resonances, tilting the tweeters down to ear level & pretty severe toe-in .

I'll put it this way - if I'm getting 80% of what the Pulsars have to offer , that IMHO is far satisfying than getting 100% out of a lesser setup. All the accolades are well deserved , Jeff Joseph is a genius at speaker design. For those more sane amongst us , I can highly recommend the Mini Maggie system from Magnepan - astounding designed-for-the-desktop sonics.

I hear nothing but good things, about the Pulsar. My buddy, went to his first show...with this past RMAF; and was really only impressed with 2 set-ups (and thought a lot of the mega-buck rooms, kinda sucked...lol). One of them was the Joseph Perspective. I think my AA guy (Aerial Acoustics, not the other AA)...is also a Joseph dealer.

I'd love some Pulsars, in my 2nd system; but that's a budget-breaker. But speaking of Maggies; I really want to do something different, in the 2nd rig; as I've tried...just about every monitor I've wanted. I've NEVER had panels; so I'm pretty sure, I'm going to drop all of $600...and get a pair of MMGs in there. :)

CD - try to listen to appear of Mini Maggies even in an open room setup. If memory serves, Chris Martens did a review of them as setup on stands in a conventional 2-Ch setup . That Woofer panel really makes a big difference . They're basically downscaled 3.7's.

Bobolaclune - Now that I've been thoroughly put in my place, I gotta say - you have a great system! :) How long have you been using those components?

CDLehner - The P3ESR's make for wonderful near-field transducers. Especially for desktop/computer use. :)

Zero - you will have to believe me that was not my intention, apologies for the miscommunication - I just got a little excited that here was another desktop enthusiast ! That system has been in place for about 3 years, I recently got Bel Canto to upgrade the DAC3.5 to a 3.7. Enjoy your system, the P3's are very special speakers

Bobo,

It's all good man. I was just giving ya a bit of playful grief. :D I love your system, and it's always exciting when ya come across another person who digs desktop listening! My system has been in place for roughly the same period of time. The most recent upgrade came in the form of some (great) electronics from a little known company in Sweden.
