To massive extent I can rely with your post as indeed 45s are amazing sounding tubes.
I'm also a close friend with Mr.Tobian (running all his gear except DAC) and I've heard majority of his released electronics and in development ones (2a3, 300b, 45, 46) that type 46 is even a notch better than 45.
300b in his amp versions are not an everyday 300b amps with the sound you mentioned, but rather massively dynamic, fast, extended with tube sweetness to die for. Big amount of that is coming from the choice of driver tubes where he uses either 45 or 46 to drive 300b (in my MA50 type 42 is driving 300b) as well as of course iron he is using.
So anyways if you can try amps with 46 output tube I would love to hear your take on that one.
