Most of us remember, often with great fondness, our first times. *Yes, first times for anything good. *Like the first time you heard a high end audio system. *What were the circumstances for you? *Write me back in the comments section or send me an email and I’ll post a few of the best stories. *Yes, I want stories, not just equipment lists. *I want to know how it felt and how it happened. *Here’s mine.

She was young but I was more nervous than her I think. Ours was a love born into ....Sorry that was a different story.
For me !986 Manhatten when I was a starving medical student but traveled to NYC to an upscale building to hear Cello Amati speakers in Mark Levinson's apartment studio. He had stacked double Amatis that were clearly out of my price range but perhaps he viewed me as a future client. He also had a Audio Palette equalizer preamp set up on a rolling dolly. Mark was also a recording engineer and bassist. He sat me down and told me to close my eyes. He fooled around with the palette and then picked up his own upright bass. Next he told me he was going to play live and then play a master tape of the same music he had prerecorded. My job was to see if I could correctly guess which was which. Now Mark being a recording engineer had great facility with the 20 or so knobs on the Palette. I was overwhelmed later that session trying to do my own adjustments. Anyway the test begins and 3 times after mimicking to identical volumn levels he tested me. And frankly the results were stunning and I don't think I ever heard till this day such a similarity between live and recorded music in the same space. It was a great time and fostered my love for Cello equipment and the sound it could produce. The entire loom was Cello electronics, speakers including cables. I don't think that actually exists today. I have owned only the Cello encores in the early 90s and they were great little amps. Till this day this is still the most impressive , fun and sonically pleasing demo with high end audiophile equipment.
